Poem: The Break Up

Updated on July 13, 2011

- Do you love me?

- No.

- Are you lying?

- Yes.

Our heads are in mess.
She wants us
to be friends we can never be.
I want us
to be in love we can never fake.
I take my heart and break it apart:
will you remember me?
I'll give you a piece if you will.
She just stands still and keeps quiet.
She's so beautiful.
Quiet and cruel
but honest.
I've always said honesty is the key
please lock what I feel.
It will be easier for me, not knowing
where it hit.

Think quick. Say something
But I only come up with something
My pride is a wounded beast, trying
to fight back.
I say don't try,
you can't defend something you don't have.

- Do you love me?

- No.

- Are you lying?

- Goodbye.

I always feel sad reading break up poetry but this is so frank and unashamedly honest, it gets my attention. This is awesome and beautiful. Thank you for the comment on my poetry too. I am now a fan. :)

It sounds like a broken heart. Nicely put.
