"The Building and the Boy" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"The Building and the Boy"

Surrounded by brick, back in a dream

Questioning reality

I look out my window from the second floor

Seems to me there is a flood

Memories taking form in a cool grey liquid

Brick, my canvas

Brick, my bone

A mad man lives on the second floor all alone

Conspiring of ways to make a scene

Now remember dear reader this is all a dream

A sequence of events that lead to a certain point

Where the scales tipped

Where the mind slipped

Falling into a hole

Black, no light, no sun

A personal prison to repent for what he had done

To the red hearts that he crushed

The boy, in the building, in his grave, tried his best, his all he gave

But, in the end we sleep in the beds we made

He had no business doing what he did

Trying to stop time

Trying to have a laugh

Trying to have fun

Being a kid, he'd been kidding a bit too long

Holding on to Neverland as if nothing was going wrong

An experiment gone right

The boy, now on the run slips into the night

And into a cool blue dream, inside of a dream

Swimming with rats over piles of brick

In too deep, enough is enough it was making him sick

For the building and the boy's cover was blown

To pieces

Scattered and shattered

Retreating to the forest to lick his wounds

The boy, back in nature, goes for a walk

Three to four hours a day, he has a long talk

With himself, the stars, the sun and the moon

Once the master of a two story fortress

Now, writing a bit of poetry in a tiny little room
