"The Church" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"The Church"

A crooked cross

Atop, asunder

A pile of ash

Hot embers reminisce of the flame

The fire that brought us to our knees

As we remember days before

When flesh covered bone, and we sang in praise

We children of harmony, now in discord

Seperated and torn by a disonant wave

An energy that manipulates all to mud, to darkness, to ash

We speak of ye angel lay fallen, but truly it crashed

A white winged grenade, dispersing shrapnel into our hearts under the guise of love

And our masochist souls relish and rejoice in explosion, in destruction, in our fire

Replacing all that was before

Our perception is blocked, what was is now no more

And yes, yes, I see you there reading a poem

Demanding to have a say in the matter... well you already have

Instead, let's say farewell to ego, as we declare we made us as we are

No recollection of the dust, the stuff that dreams are made, a creator beyond the stars

No, no, we no longer search above, we do not take a knee

For let it be ash, asunder, let energy bow down unto me

Let it rotate and spin, as it finds me it's pole

This gravity of science, a beacon of filthy lips, spouting down, dragged ye, slithery, this red cobra!

Wrapped up, constricting this tree at the root, this church made of wood

For once God dwelled here, now science stand alone, contaminating where it stood

And I see the people kneel, but they are just contorting themselves to pet the snake

And I am safe, watching atop from this big ol' tree

I do believe, I have faith, I'm high enough where the cobra can't get to me

I want to be on the right hand, this big limb, with my majesty

My grace, be blessed, camouflage my flesh in these leaves of green

Make me pure, make me new, make me the most precious thing you've ever seen

And I will love thee

And I will sacrifice

And I will climb down to tell the others what it can be like to be above

As the snakes are at our feet, slithering on the ground

A divine branch, extends itself, light reaches out and all around

And the church is here, fighting fire with fire

The renewal of our concept of soul

Burning all from which it came

Burning, these numbers, these illusions, these equations, all the same

Due to the fact that we all stem from 1

While the devil, the empty denominator, the duplicitous demon, spawns a zero sum

Absent fangs that somehow strike and sink into nothingness

And that's no way to live, yet a sure way to die

Science continuously changing, 1 the constant in the sky

Continuing to challenge, with evidence, contrary, a damning proclamation to thy self

So, in turn it damages us, the unit, the whole, we as one, singularity a virtue of wealth

The likeness of humanity, distorted and out of view

For here we are, a pile of ash, payment for all we thought we knew

And we know better

Our families before understood, so that's why it more terrifying to see it torn apart

A family accepting the sanctity of bread, the family at the table, now a lost form of art

And here is life, the imitation of color, blurring before our very eyes

Give, no thanks, say no grace, fire consume our family ties

Instead blend and bind us all together as pulp

Ignite this rabble, down to this very pile of ash

Where the church once stood

And walk upon them and make your mark

And once again, grant them a certain plot of land

Somewhere to gather together, somewhere to take a stand

The Church

Wonderfully put Dana, pride is the catalyst for our position, and the very reason why the devil distanced himself from heaven. The evil forces are at work and you are right, they attack the most spiritual, and they do not want us to realize how powerful we are as unified children of God... they're going to find out soon, and I pray for them. Best to you

We are in a constant battle. The more spiritual you are the more you are attacked. There are spiritual forces that keep us from trying to discover who we are. I'm truly amazed that we seem to always search for an answer to world peace when we all know the answer is love and respect. When I think of all of our characteristics such as, greed, hate, envy and strife and racism all stem from one seed which is pride. Humans are self-destructive we our in many ways our own worst enemy because we possess the flaw of wanting to be worshipped and God like.

Great messages to convey to us here in this world we live today. The part where you are at the top of that tree is what stood out to me also. Staying high in your beliefs, never letting the snake get to you, staying in God's grace as he makes you a perfect person with courage to climb down and share that love and wisdom with all. Very inspiring thoughts, Eric.

What an amazing write, Eric. It reminds me of the Bible story of Zacchias the tax collected watching Jesus from a tree. I won't elaborate but it is a story that resonates with me. Love this poem and the messages within.

Yes, yes, Bro. I did not want to be 'too'heavy, but yes, this is the message of the great Ones, to return and serve mankind. We call this 'Manifestation' in Sri Chinmoy's writings, and I have spoken of this in great length in my book. God bless you. Trying times yes, but stay happy. Much Love.

Thanks Manatita, it is your duty (as you well know) to come down from the tree and spread the positive life altering message of love, and we need the likes of you, for we are at war. Best to you

Wow! Great poetry with some deep messages. I like being at the top of the tree, looking down, and coming down too, perhaps, sharing, enlightening .... Supreme excellent poetry! Woven well.
