The Coliseum

Updated on March 8, 2013

The blood poured through her pen

and in the end

kudos

were given

fonts of pain

screamed for release

"Brilliant"

"Masterpiece"

hollow bells rung from Notre Dame

secrets spilled alphabet soup upon her lap

spelling things better left unsaid

leaving burns that always weep

and never heal

the audience loved her sorrow

gathering at the coliseum

for another diary entry

of lions

and wild beasts

she recited her life in a song of poetry

the crowds gathered as the acrid smoke of ashen blood rose from her trembling voice

she played the piano with skeleton keys

bruises

and band aids

More

More they shouted

demanded

dipping their swords in menstrual blood

a lapse in judgment carried the northern winds under her skirt

and for a brief moment

every stranger saw her pink diamond

stalking footsteps became the branches that broke in the dark forest when she was alone and scared

alone and praying

alone

typing

Every poem revealed another layer of sadness

another depth of darkness

another bout of depression

another shot

another lapse

in judgment

the news had spread

but the cupboards were bare

of penicillin

She cried for sugar while the bees stung

and like a movie

everyone hit the rewind button

She smeared her face across the glass

and there was no smile

nor expression

just an emptiness

"Poet of the Year"

that's what they said

what they called her

gave her

and the sound of it

never sounded more hollow

as she sits in her cathedral

remembering

Notre Dame

Thanks so much Faith... inspired by those who write their poetry as diary entries... letting the entire world into their most sacred secret places... not always the wisest thing to do :( peace my friend

haha.. thanks Wayne! i used to post on Myspace quite a bit.. and there was one female poet who would just rip out her heart and splat it on the pages for everyone to read... the most personal things you can imagine... a great poet, but a sadness lay underneath her ink... and the more her heart bled, the more the people applauded,... like wolves smelling a wounded animal - thanks bro
