The Constitution of India (Poem)

Updated on March 9, 2014

The Constitution of India

Source

Almost two and a half years later,

Since the day of Indian independence,

On 26th January, 1950,

India became a republic nation,

A written book of laws was implemented then,

Considered as the supreme law of the country,

Hence, holds a position of reverence,

It’s the Constitution of India.

The drafting committee of the Indian Constitution,

Headed by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the first chairman,

Prepared strong and formidable laws,

Through them the constitution makers,

Conveyed the dream image they had of India,

The Constitution declares India as sovereign,

Socialist, secular and democratic republic,

It assures to serve Indian public,

With justice, equality and liberty,

Even promises to enhance fraternity,

With a hope to make every Indian happy,

That’s the road to a prosperous India!

Alas! Presently India is at a miserable state,

Mass is ignored,

And, a small section is privileged,

Few have prospered,

While rest are shattered,

Misuse of power and money,

Ruined our beloved country,

Lives in India are no sweet poetry,

Rather, numerous lives are the reflection of fright,

Is it what the majority Indians want?

Ordinary Indians are pained, frustrated and harassed,

When will the caretakers of the constitution respond?

Isn't it a high time?

Take a pledge to honor the Indian Constitution,

Make this Republic Day a truth for every Indian.

Happy Republic Day!

Indian Constitution

Shampa, after a long time I am back to HubPages and this is the first hub of yours since I came back. Probably this is the thought topmost in every Indians mind- and many of us here in HubPages must sigh on reading this. For the rest of the world you have coded in short and solemn words the Constitution of India- which really was so well framed. Voted up and sharing.

      Beautiful indeed!

I wish India's constitution is taken seriously and all creeds and cultures are respected along with the men and women of our society.

Gosh...right now India's women needs all the respect possible. Mother india/women.

      Jai ho indeed!

Thank You. For God's own reasons, sometimes things happen slowly. 150 years after Swami Vivekananda's birth, lots are happening in different countries, and India itself, seems to have made some progress. The Supreme works with patience. You, me and others are trying to do our part. Let us continue. I wish you God's Light and Grace. Much love.

      Hello sen.sush23,

I am unable to post my articles regularly due to various reasons but yes, I missed your comment in some of the articles which I posted earlier. Thanks a lot for reading and appreciating this one. You are very good at poetry and your use of imagery is undoubtedly wonderful which I lack but still, I try my hand in writing poetry within my limitations. Thus, when a writer like you appreciate my simple poetry it means a lot. Thanks again for it.

Yes, you are right that for the ordinary Indians the first priority is to receive justice in our lives against all the injustices but somehow it's denied. So, I felt to raise my voice against this denial with a hope that one day justice will be granted to the ordinary Indians. Thanks again!

      Hello Ruchira,

As you know your comment is always special. Thanks for reading and applauding. Yes, every female needs to be respected in India but sadly it is missing. The Indian President, on the eve of January 26, while addressing the nation earnestly requested the Indians to 'reset its moral compass'. God knows when it will actually happen! Thanks again.

      Hello Manatita44,

Thanks a lot for your support and concerned comment. I really felt blessed while reading your remark. Let us not stop our bit of effort and expect that the Supreme Light will enlighten the ignorant one day but , may this day come very soon so that no more lives get ruined in different ways. Thanks again and God Bless!

The constituion is well written, but sadly ignored. I hope this turns around for your country. The people deserve to live with the justice presented in this law and policy.

Constitution of India is the world longest constitution. This is perhaps because India is a vast country, with numerous races and communities.

When I was in Bangalore I had a privilege to see Ambedkar's statue.

I hope this poem is read by the current breed of leaders. They'd certainly hang their heads in shame or may be not! These politicians are very thick skinned.

      Hard hitting poem, Shampa.

Voted up and awesome, shared as well.

Great hub and great expressions in your poem!

Our constitution is so thorough and well written and includes almost everything to make an average Indian feel safe , secure and lead a comfortable life.

I liked your thought provoking poem that needs to be taken seriously.

      Thanks for sharing!

Thanks a lot Chitrangada for such wonderful words. In fact our constitution has covered every aspect but the misuse of it is going on.
