The Dance

Updated on March 10, 2011

I danced beneath the bloodless moon,
mesmerized by midnight's bloom.
Clothed in Eden's splendid dress,
sporting none but flowered tress.

I danced beneath a silent sky
to ceremonially untie
bonds that held my heart in chain,
breaking free in starlight's wain.

I danced to music never heard,
a melody of unsung bird...
My tear drops fell into the night,
I cried for joy at freedom's sight.

I raised my hands to Heaven's Gate
Ecstatic now to claim my Fate...
In the embrace of darkness fair
I honored all that brought me there.

I danced like I had never danced.
With graceful step, I swayed and pranced
in ballet of fluid show,
I twirled about in heart rondeau.

I danced to joy I'd never felt
and as I danced, the chains did melt.
Time then vanished, as did age,
for in my hand, a brand new page.

I danced beneath the bloodless moon
until the flush of morning bloom...
my heart and soul had taken wing,
my spirit given voice to sing.

Beautiful as always. It makes me think of the poem, dance like no one is watching..

      I love the dance.

FaithDream, I remember that saying, dance like no one is watching, and that is how I envisioned this dance, a very private celebration. Thanks for the read and great comment!

..and what a poetic dance this is .....and always remember be free .... and write freely .... it's the great ones who can do this on a regular basis - and you are one, in particular, who does it - on a regular basis - and the quality - and the wonder - is always there - and that's a special talent - that you have!

You had me at "bloodless moon". Rhyming seems to galvanize your poetry and gives you the framework within which to operate. It definitely works well for you.

Doug, "bloodless moon" got me too. The initial inspiration involved a blood moon...but bloodless seemed to fit better for it would be pale, ethereal, white but misty...I don't know...lol...this was in interesting poem in that the first verse came when I was running late to pick someone up, and was written while trying to drive!!! It was written at stop lights!!! how funny is that!!!anyways...that was way more than you asked for, I'm sure! Thanks for your read, as always, and your just over the top comments! You keep me writing, my friend! Hugs!

      I especially like:

I danced beneath a silent sky

      to ceremonially untie

bonds that held my heart in chain,

      breaking free in starlight's wain.

You describe perfectly the freedom and exhilaration of dancing. Very nice.
