The Day Love Came Knocking on the Door

Updated on May 26, 2015

She still remembered how low she’d felt

nothing and no one could comfort her

she’d been alone for such a long time

often wondering if there was some reason

why it seemed that life had cast her asunder

keeping a rain cloud full of thunder

gathered above her head

no more smiles, only frowns

she wondered where life had gone wrong

that was the day when at her very worst

love came knocking upon her door

he stood there so tall and sure

with a smile as dazzling as the sun

his eyes bright and shining

he’d just moved in next door

at first she was wary

and wondered if she should let him in

so cold and aloof she’d been for so long

because most everything had gone wrong

she forced a smile that seemed out of place

right away he saw her emotional turmoil

not to cause her undue distress

he asked her over for a grill that evening

when the door was between them once more

her cheeks were flaming

her heart pounding

and she doubted she could walk on over

but that evening she found herself

crossing the lawn

that separated them from one another

and she wondered if he was alone

but when he opened the door

the joy at seeing her was so real

and she suddenly knew

she was looking into the eyes of love

it would take some time

to change how she felt

time to bring them closer

but he was to her

what she had been waiting for

and she, she helped him to be lonely no more

together they discovered

that they both were looking for someone

together they found the love

they had been looking for

and she blessed the day

that he had come knocking on her door

What a beautiful love story with a happy ending. "He was to her what she had been waiting for." That line makes me want to dream.

Love comes when you least expect. Inviting her over for a barbecue was a nice way of breaking the ice.
