The Daylight Did Not Exist

Updated on January 10, 2015

The magnificent nightmare would insist,

that the daylight did not exist,

in terror I heard the names,

and the shadows before my eyes

crackled like flames,

and such intensity can destroy you

then dies,

I found myself trapped in fears,

forsaking dreams of ethereal simplicity

as I fought back the tears,

the air was bitter then sweet,

as my shadow would roam

a dark and narrow street,

I could hear myself moan,

as if I were in shock,

then I’d return to the ticking clock

in my bedroom,

which was laid out upon the night stand,

in total command,

there was a soft hush,

then came a dark rush,

I accepted it, I simply had no choice,

a spirit began talking

in a high, rapid, animated voice,

ghosts were walking

on the top floor,

repeating over and over,

I heard them talking,

until they finally reached my door,

they stood there,

and anger seemed to settle very near,

I was trapped in a dim light’s mist,

and the daylight did not exist.

I had goose bumps and the hair stood up on my arms. A very mysterious hub. Great job Frank.

A dark and image evoking poem that made the cold day seem even colder somehow.

Up and Awesome, Frank. It sent chills through me. You are so good with words and phrases that bring it home. "I found myself trapped in fears,

      forsaking dreams of ethereal simplicity

as I fought back the tears," - chilling! and very vivid.

Nightmares....always a surprise and so chilling. You have captured them well. The unknown creeping up on us while we helplessly await the outcome.

      Voted up, awesome, and beautiful.

Another good poem. No one sets a mood quite like you do. :) And you used the word "ethereal." I am all but swooning. :)

Darkness and terror do block out the light of rational thought... your words beautifully create the atmosphere and take us through the experience.. well done! Pushing all the buttons here.. Have a blessed day. Peace!

      Hi Frank,

You do dark so well. When I have a nightmare, the first thing I do is jump out of bed and turn on the light.

      Voted up and away!

I believe this is a bad dream. The ghosts are memories of something done as a child and parents were very angry, maybe locked in a darkened bedroom. The feeling of darkness and no daylight is the loss of the love and rejection.

I am probably miles off but that is my thoughts anyway. Lol

Was this a real experience, Frank? I think you dreamt this or possibly did experience this to a certain extent, am I correct? That spirit doesn't seem evil to me though...maybe frightening but don't push it away because you don't know it yet...hopefully that makes sense. Voted up and awesome!

Dark and beautiful--I could say it over and over--but I always find that it fits your work so well--This piece in particular seemed to move out of a careful rhyme scheme and I really liked that --it gave it more edginess for me--
