The Detachment Bag

Updated on June 23, 2011

Come with me

In your mind

Down by

The beautiful river

Let's walk slowly

I brought a gift for you

A bag such as you love

Made of a feel and texture

With a fragrance

Color and shade

Of happiness

To be worn in a way

As you would like to wear it

Feel it in your hands

Look at it

It is so beautiful

Put it on, that’s right

I love your smile

Fits you perfectly

Resting like a comfort

On the exact part of your body

You would prefer

And it has a safety clasp

To keep your things safe

Let me tell you a secret

This is a magic bag

Everything you love will fit

Held safe within

Your watch, your musical instrument

Your phone and computer

Your car, your house

Your beloved secret treasures

All inside

Now close the clasp

… ah, safe.

What a precious bag.

Do you love it?

I’m glad. Walk with me.

Measure every step.

No rush.

Feel how your foot

Touches the earth.

How precious our feet

Carrying us every day.

How sweet

Breathing in the scent of trees

On the wooded path

Hear the water

The softly murmuring river

Feel the cool breeze

Here in the shade of the trees

As we climb the beautiful arch

Of a stone footbridge

Stopping at the highest point

We look down

The dark water coils slowly

Upon its liquid self

Take your beautiful precious bag

Full of your beloved things

Throw it

Feel the connection of possession

As it sails through the air

The impact of splashdown

It bobs and floats downstream

Allowing you a last look

Before it sinks

Out of sight

With the things you love

That’s right

Walk with me

Back to your car

Let’s go back to your house

Where you can show me

Your MacBook Pro and your guitar

All the things you love

Even more than you did before

How lucky you are!

Wow, To put all your treasures in a bag, toss it away, then find you still have more waiting just as precious, but the important lesson, Detachment. Things are second compared to a friend. Great write.

What a great narration! You have really taken me down to the earth. Being a nature lover, I have greatly enjoyed this. But, I can't use the magic bag, because I am not having anything I love too much. Voted 'up' & rated 'awesome'.
