The Quirky Nurse
Nurses are Interesting and Amazing Creatures
As a fairly introverted person I take great pleasure in watching others and the way they interact and behave. I have compiled a list of the diverse personalities of Nurses that I have encountered over the years.
Nurses are a diverse and interesting group. I am proud to be a part of it.
The Nervous Nellie
You know her. The one who worries about every little detail. The one who is there hours after her shift has ended. She cares more than any Nurse in the history of nursing. Someone has drilled into her head that every move she makes may put her at risk for a lawsuit so she writes a narrative about the technique she used to wipe her patient's nose.
The one who comes to work out of uniform. They never listen to anything anyone tells them. Too cool to take a complement. Tattoos under the scrubs. Never answers the phone the way they're supposed to, and hangs up on you in mid sentence.
My favorite! The one who has been a Nurse longer, better, and is far more superior in intelligence than all the nurses put together in the entire hospital. If you tell them a story, they have a better story (that is if they even listened to your story in the first place). One-upmanship is their favorite pastime.
She never complains. Never has a negative word to say. You always wonder how someone could be so happy, and nice to everyone. She never has a bad day. You know it's going to be a good day when Sweetheart is there.
Yes, the complaining, whining, nothing is ever good Nurse. The one you try to avoid at all costs. They never can understand why they can't ever get a break. Hmmm, I wonder why they can't get a break.
Always fishing for complements. The one who says, "I am just the worst Nurse in the entire hospital." You know they want you to tell them they are a wonderful Nurse. I always wonder what would happen if you said, "You are right, you are the worst Nurse in the entire hospital!" I wouldn't do that...just saying.
The Rabble Rouser
The Nurse who loves to stir the pot. Will say anything to get attention but then turns the tables and makes it look like someone else started it. You can never pin them down. They know how to work the system...really criminally insane. Just kidding there aren't any Nurses like that. Well, maybe but that's another story.
The Court Jester
The title is self explanatory. Really without the Jester Nurse it would not be fun around the coffee pot, if you know what I mean. This is probably the one I admire the most. I can't get enough of someone who makes me laugh. Someone who can make you laugh and then laugh at themselves is special.
The Nurse who is always going to the Nurse Manager about something. She is not happy unless someone is making a mistake and she makes sure everyone knows about it. Busy body, blabbermouth, gossiper, telltale, rumormonger, sandpiper...Wow I didn't realize there were so many names for the Tattler...Those are the nice ones. One good thing about the tattler is you know where to go if you want to know what's going on around the coffee pot.
Nurses are such a diverse group of people. As a careful observer of human nature I get so much from my fellow Nurses. Without such a diverse group of characters, the theater of life would be a snoring bore.
