The Essence of Beauty :Reflections on the truth behind beauty

Updated on August 13, 2013

The essence of beauty, through and true,

Is not how we look, our outward view;

Not our frontal image, bound for display

Though important, to not be in disarray.

It is a plus, when appearance pleases

But not, after all, true beauty that eases.

Beautiful -Christina Aguilera

The essence of true beauty is a soul that inspires

With loving words and actions that we admire

To a truthful heart we gravitate

It is honesty, sincerity that motivates

From genuine feeling we do not shirk

For it is what’s real that serves to perk.

Source

The essence of true beauty is the sacrifice

For the greater needs of others, to compromise

The scarce ability to render

The listening ear we find most tender

To give one’s time, a gift most treasured

Asset of value which cannot be measured

One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful

The essence of true beauty is to spare a thought

For others when they are overwrought

To pay heed to what others require

To make their desires at times prior

When they be, in dark distress

Their concerns gently address

Source

The essence of true beauty is to have resolve

The little whims of others to absolve

To be determined, persevere

When at the darkest points of fear

An enchanting lure is the iron will

That stays sure, put through the mill.

Source

The essence of true beauty is to treasure

The gift of others, in great measure

To them to extend, in magnitude

The prized present of gratitude

Insignificant as they seem to be

Their hand in your life may not be wee.

When asked what true beauty is

What is beautiful that sets us apart

A gift of ourselves, from the heart.

      Hi Michelle,

You have captured the real meaning of beauty with your beautiful poetry. Outward beauty may initially attract people, but it is the inward beauty that will keep them as lovers and friends. For it is the latter that truly matters when all is said and done. I really like the way you think and write! Up votes and tweeting.

Wow, Carly.....this lovely comment is a real compliment, and I'm honored!! Yes, choosing good pics is the hard part for most of us, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Ads always promote beauty on the surface and it's this tussle between inner and outer beauty that drives women batty!! Especially when they seek prospective husbands!!I'm so glad to connect with you as well, and will be prowling your hubs!!

The essence of beauty is this hub. You have a wonderful way of creating titles for your hubs that pull the reader in. Once they open the door the words are captivating. Not only that you put time into choosing images, dividers, and music. All of which seems seamless, but being a hubber I know a lot of work goes into this.

The essence of beauty is a great reminder, that we all need to read over and over again. What if our magazines had adds like this? How would young girls feel about their bodies? What if our TV adds spoke of these words? How would a dating women seek out a prospective husband? One who would love her for who she is or one who loves her because of what she looks like?

I find beauty in unique places and so do you Michelle. Great to have a fellow beauty seeker in this world.

What a touching poem. You are beautiful inside and out ^_^

I think you would enjoy this poem written by Audry Hepburn...

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.

      Voted up and beautiful!

You have captured the essence of beauty in this beautiful poem and you summed it up so well in these words,

"When asked what true beauty is

What is beautiful that sets us apart

A gift of ourselves, from the heart."

      Voted up, awesome, and beautiful!

What is the essence of beauty? It is our soul and how we share our soul. What makes us beautiful people is how we look at ourselves and say, "This is who I am and I will show it".

Thanks for a great sestina, Michelle! Sharing this on here and FB!

Yes, Janine, and sadly too few people remember that....no matter how they claim otherwise. True beauty comes from within.....not without and it's actually about caring for others. Thanks, my dear, for coming by!

What really makes true beauty I do agree with your essential message that true beauty comes from the heart and therefore beauty is not we we see on the outside, but tucked deep inside of us all. Loved this and made me think of my love for my family (my husband and my girls) and how my heart truly does run deep for them. How I would do anything for them and to keep them safe and happy as well. Michelle, thanks for making me self reflect a bit this morning. Have of course voted and shared too!!
