Art and Poetry: In Your Eyes

The Eyes Have It

My earliest memory of drawing when I was a little nipper is one of eyes. I had a fascination for drawing eyes. I have drawn, doodle, sketched thousands of them over the years. I love eyes. They speak so much. The language of eyes is so much more evocative than the spoken language, at times.

Who doesn't fall for beautiful eyes? Whatever their shade, whatever the shape, the eyes are a window to a million thoughts and desires.

Now that I started doodling on my ipad, I have been able to 'save' my eyes as images and go back to them! However, my art is far from those of the artist featured here.

Bec Winnel's art captured my eyes in an instant. Her ability to draw eyes may have something to do with this instant attraction. The way she draws these images centre all the focus on those beautifully painted eyes. The soft pastels and gentle skin tones serve to move our focus to those bright, shiny, memorable eyes.

These eyes are enough to make a man a poet.

The paintings did fit my little poem ' In Your eyes'...

In Your Eyes

I think, I link, I sink

in your eyes

I see, I free, I glee

in your eyes

I ache, I break, I take

in your eyes

I know, I show, I flow

in your eyes

I fly, I try, I sigh

in your eyes

I dream, I beam, I scream

in your eyes

I kiss, I miss, I wish

in your eyes

I say, I lay, I pray

in your eyes

I wave, I save, I gave

in your eyes

I prove, I groove, Improve

in your eyes

I sing, this song, looking

in your eyes

I see, my soul, reflect

in your eyes.

As you, will see, you live

in my eyes.

Bec Winnel

When you look at those soothing shades rendered so well with soft pastels, pencils and ink - you wouldn't believe that the artist is self taught. The arresting femininity, the inviting eyes that tell a thousand stories, the still images that speak volumes - all have the quality of an assured hand.

The young artist whose creations are displayed here is Bec Winnel. Bec hails from Australia. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood icons, Bec's initial attempts were photorealistic renditions of movie stars such as Reece Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Drew Barrymore. She must have a thing for eyes.

Bec says she draws inspiration from 'unexpected places'. Despite taking time off from drawing during her teens, she came back to her passion whole heartedly and has never looked back. Her growing popularity and collectability has not gone to her head though. She strives to 'keep growing'. A graphic designer with a portfolio across many fashion magazines, Bec has exhibited in Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles. Thanks to her blog and internet presence she is now a break out artist across the globe with many avid fans, including me.

@Vickiw- Thank you so much. Strange about the ipad though as I do view and edit my hubs frequently on my ipad too. All my video hubs do play well on the ipad as I do check for compatibility . Perhaps the software needs updating ... sorry about being a nuisance to your eager readership. Glad you like the eyes.

Hi Docmo, so pleased to be able to comment on your work 0f Art, - the eyes definitely have it as far as you are concerned! sorry about my apparent lack of interest, it has taken me a while to figure out why my iPad crashes every time I try to look at one of your Hubs - iPad doesnt have Flash! I will have to go to my PC any time you write, but I am happy to do so, because you always have Hubs of such Beauty, and this is no exception. Really wonderful work, Mohan. I love eyes too.

      Docmo,

The HUB was voted up and beautiful. Thank you for introducing us to Bec Winnel and for sharing your own artistic talent. The poem was really lovely, a universal truth -the eyes are the window to the soul and it is always the first feature that attracts me. Beautiful.

So true, Docmo, eyes are the visible parts of our souls. We do see ourselves in the souls of others. If we cannot see ourselves beautiful and lovable in the eyes of another person, we cannot believe that we are beautiful and lovable.
