The Giving of a Smile

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

In all the world of human life,

different countries, cities, towns, diverse cultures and beliefs,

there is nothing more heart-warming than a simple smile,

a welcoming, open act of acceptance.

As innocent as a child, as adoring as a grandma,

as knowing as a grandpa and as loving as a parent,

the smile is the key to the soul of the giver,

the heart unveiled of all that binds.

The act is not just demeanour, not just agreement,

but the pleasure of giving in a parcel of light,

a free and radiant glimmer of the true self,

unencumbered by the trials and tribulations of daily life.

The smile is one of our most poignant and multi-layered expressions,

subtle in it's nuances and dynamic in its ability to enlighten,

move a mind to consideration,

and impart the whispers of a yearning heart.

A smile is the key to a clear path,

the wordless acceptance of a proposition,

the perceptive understanding of an unspoken ploy,

and the simple gift of a loving heart.

The smile, as simple as it is,

is a gauge of the ability to love, without obligation or restraint,

and should never be limited by circumstance or propriety,

simply freed to enlighten the world.
