The Glutton's Prayer (Satirical poetry )
The Glutton’s Prayer
Now I sit down here to eat
I pray my hunger pangs will meet
This pound of bacon sure looks small
If it were twice that much I’d eat it all
But, there’s four eggs fried with sausage links
A bowl of grits and juice to drink
Hash browned potatoes on the side
I wish I had two more eggs fried...
Six hot cakes fresh right off the griddle
Coffee with cream? I’ll have a little...
Some melted butter on my grits
And a bowl of fruit should do the trick.
Though not as good as last nights meal
I thank you Lord that was a deal!
The ribs I had seamed just enough
Though I thought the second slab was tuff.
The beans were bold and kind of spicy
But the second bowl I handled nicely
The coleslaw they served me tasted sweet
It really went well with the meat.
The garlic bread was hot and nice
I really wanted one more slice
A sweet potato came with the meat
with cinnamon and butter, it was a treat
Smoked chicken too, came with the meal
To my taste buds it did appeal
I cleaned my plate down to the bones
I almost had to take dessert home.
But I filled it in between the cracks
I almost passed up my evening’s snack
With cold sweet tea I washed it down
I sure enjoy my trips to town
I’ll finish breakfast then I’ll relax
my afternoons filled to the max
first baseball Then golf to end the day
lost of games to watch them play.
Fishing is my favorite sport
I love tennis and the court
Auto racing is a thrill
My hunting trips and test of skill
If I can get up from this chair
And walk to the lounger over there
I’ll take my drink and bag of snacks
Incase my hunger pangs come back
So Lord I thank you for this time
To enjoy the life, my food and wine
And pray that you will guide my feet
When it again comes time to eat.
