The Hitchhiker's Guide to Highway 85

Updated on June 20, 2010

I've been floatin' down 85.

This mask of stone as my disguise.

Sortin' through the mess of my mind.

You have a way of drawin' out my two sides,

the perfect picture of the great divide.

I slipped up and let you on the inside.

Now I can't hide behind my foolish pride.

You took the wheel from my misguided hand,

and drove away without a plan.

For the first time I'm on the passenger's side.

Your intentions etched on the map in my mind.

A hitcher's path can consume a soul,

vanquish pieces in the cracks of the road.

Passersby only noticed a paper ghost,

but your keen eye recognized the flesh enclosed.

You took the wheel from my misguided hands,

and drove away without a plan.

For the first time, I'm on the passenger's side,

your intentions etched on the map in my mind.
