The Human Preditor

Updated on March 10, 2011

Moving in around our fellows

knowing that our due isn't enough

seeking those who give us more

a sense of their pain

an ounce of trust

it is to us they should vent

the need to feed

ravenously aspiring

or seeing the tear

we gage if it is best to enjoy the aroma

ask them why

or simply let them cry

the innocent get trodden under

they aught to know not to trust

the sharks of humanity

ourselves most honest

live to feel out

those who bleed most easily

keeping them near us

to quench our thirst

let us not pretend abhorrence at the news

we watch it hungerally for the latest bit

who doesn't turn to the rags at the store

glorying in the problems of the mighty

satisfied that they suffer for their status

then off to the courts on TV

watching red flow out those doors

cutting each other for us to see

hoping no peaceful resolution happens

the better for us to feed.

we relish our drama

real or imagined

we need our gossip

proof of evil

oft wagging our fingers

at that which we can't get enough of

I am not sure you will ever get society to starve itself of what keeps them going when they cannot or will not create.

Interesting thoughts. I just posted a hub today talking about trying to stop "worthless talk" as a way to become a better person. Thinking that will cut down on gossip and drama.

hmm i will differ with you on the need for drama although in that sympathizing with life can be affirming and you cant make a difference without getting involved with other people's drama but that is different. For me, unless one is willing to get involved and make positive changes voyeurism is just another way to feed man's appetite for social cannibalism and blood lust.

thanks Dave, it is always nice when you stop by.

JFrost- I will accept the admonition here as even i can get drawn into the sticky web of personal drama. I have completely given up television and only watch it when visiting other's don't even own a television set. And I stay away from magazines and newspapers.

There is a very good point made and that's why I have separated these lines :

      "we relish our drama

      real or imagined

      we need our gossip

      proof of evil

      oft wagging our fingers

at that which we can't get enough of"

This tendency toward judgement is indicative of exactly what it is, human frailty. We DO need drama, and comedy and tragedy etc etc, the difference is that needing and reveling aren't the same. So while we are fine to look on and wag our fingers as you aptly have written here, rest assured there is another doing the same at our "drama" ... Great poem, and very insightful message ...
