The Interview-Prose

Illusions by Gregory Porter

He asks me

“You going to keep writing”

“Is this your life?”

I say yes it’s one of ‘em

like the second one I have been living

I gots’ a plenty

so he said, “From where is the material coming”?

I respond, “Jazz and a little blue with words

and then jazz with nothing but instrumental reverb

occasional voices”

he knows there is this affinity for

repetition in my music

especially if the note is slight with melancholy tone

transport to the joints

until it is seeping from pores

and I just can’t hinder it anymore

becomes comatose if I don’t discuss it outwardly

with ink and desperation or vocal chords

I told him (cause' he’s a close acquaintance) "Cease with the inquisition"

pick up Sonia and Mr. Shakespeare for me

so I can jot down something

and now write not skinny but with a lil’ swing

healthy prose

This piece conjures both imagery and the notes of a bluesy-jazz horn. Voted Up and Awesome.
