I decided to create this list while I am still active. It is good to have a plan and a direction. These are the few items that I would like to be my legacy. I hope they are not too ambitious.

- January 2017

My Short List...

  • My writings here on HubPages which includes my autobiography.
  • My volunteer work at the Westchester County Archives. It is going on 15 years...
  • My teachings on Conservative principles and the Constitution. Hope to publish an ebook titled "Lamentation of a Conservative" this year.
  • My efforts in helping our CCNY Women's Fencing team.
  • My work on connecting with my IBM colleagues - reunion dinner 2017.
  • My ongoing work on maintaining our Family Tree at TribalPages.
  • My efforts to digitize our family's extensive photo albums.

What is a Legacy?

A legacy should be something that has a long term effect or impact. One that is measured in terms of decades instead of years. It should also be something positive and inspiring. It should also be educational for the next generation. Some wisdom or knowledge to be transferred from one generation to the next.

My Family

Some Details...

In the fall of 2015, I decided to write an autobiography. It took me about 6 months and 24 chapters later, I have completed it. I joins a local writer's group hoping to improve my writing skills. It turned out to be much better than I hoped. I was able to learn so much and receive constructive feedback from the group members. I went back and rewrote some of it and restructure some other parts to improve the final product.

Since then, I have been doing more writing and publishing on HubPages including the creation of 20 hubbooks on a variety of topics. In the end of 2016, I reached a new milestone of 300 hubs, and over 28,000 views.

Since the year 2003, I have been volunteering part of my time at the Westchester County Archives. It is a weekly 2 hour commitment to perform mainly scanning of old photographs from the 1930s on. These are historic photos that documents the rise of Westchester county. I estimated in the 13 years since, I've scanned over 14,000 images from the collection. Many of them have been processed by the staff and posted online at their website. It is their goal to make these images accessible and available for all people in our county and around the world.

One of my interests is history. I have read many books and have researched various sites to learn about our unique American experiece. As an immigrant from another country, I am proud to adopt America as my country and make my home here and raised a family and had a successful career. I am a Constitutional Conservative, and always thought it would be beneficial if a book could be written aimed at our youths. They need to be taught our history and our unique Constitution so that they will be able to take over when it is their time. I am in the process of doing just that. My book is titled "Lamentation of a Comservative" and I hope to publish it as an eBook this coming year.

Another one of my interest is the sport of fencing. When I was attending college, I was fortunate enough to be part of a Varsity fencing team at CCNY taught by a top Olympic coach. I have also competed nationally in open tournaments both individual and as a team member. Unfortunately, our school have undergone changes over the years and the current fencing program is a shadow of the former team. I decided to volunteer my time and energy in my retirement to help rebuild the team and the fencing program. I intend to do this both with financial assistance and throuh a new organization called Friends of CCNY Fencing. This is a brwnd new initiative and as a first step, I am reaching out to some of my former teammates for help and support.

Last year, one of my old manager and good friend past away unexpectedly. I was stunned at how quickly it happened. It was a wakeup call and an inspiration for me to start organizing a reunion of my former colleagues at IBM Reseach. So far, I was able to reach about 45 members. I am hoping a majority of them will be able to make it to our reunion dinner. It would be 15 years since I left IBM. Many things have changed but our friendship and comradery remains. Looking forward to catch up with old colleagues.

Finally, what it's all about. Like the song Alfie, I believe it is the love of our family that drive us to get up each morning and take on the world. Years ago, I started a family tree on TribalPages. I have been maintaining it and adding to it ever since. It is now well over 200 people even though it is incomplete. I get a montly notification alerting me to birthdays and anniversaries. It was well worth it. I am glad I did it. Someday, my kids will find it useful. I am also in the process of digitizing our family's photo albums. I estimate we must have 6-7 thousand photos over the last 60 years or more. These are precious moments in time, weddings, birthdays, graduations and vacation... It is a monumental task.

My legacy is one of preservation of the past, charity work in the present and family reverence in the future. My college alma mater CCNY has the logo, in Latin Respice, Adspice, Prospice. That seems appropriate for my legacy goals.
