The Life of a Fly

Updated on September 18, 2012

If I were a fly

Then I could spy

On the boys

To see why they make noise.

But if I were found

I would soon be ground

Under a shoe.

Ewwwww.

If I were a fly

Then I could spy

On the girls

To see why they wear curls.

But if I were seen

They would let out a scream

And beat me with a newspaper

Until my life was a vapor.

If I were a fly

I could fly up in the sky

Then rest on a tree

Where I could just be

Watching the birds

While they are dropping their t_ _ _ _.

Hey wait. That bird is coming too close.

I will be his supper, I suppose.

If I were a fly

I would keep whizzing on by

Up and down

Darting around

Playing with crickets and bees

Feasting on someone's rotten cheese

Teasing and tormenting poor old frog.

He won't mind. Oops. Guess I was wrong.

If I were a fly

I soon would die.

My life here is short.

I am of no import.

Of my demise, only a few will notice.

My friend, Larry, the locust,

Probably will cry.

But there is no other life for me,

living the life, the life of a fly.

Fun. It makes you wonder if flies are comfortable being the way they are:)

Philly, Thanks for reading. A fly's life is brief, usually less than 24 hours. I appreciate your comment.

Being a fly sounds like it sucks LOL. I guess total free to do whatever you want comes with some consequences.

What a cute, interesting poem! This is certainly a unique one. I can honestly say I haven't given a fly's life a second thought.
