A Nighttime Buccaneer

Updated on January 31, 2011
Source

the clouds are moving overhead
hold me in silent trance...
they drift in quiet gracefulness
in fluid tai chi dance.
in the dark embrace of shadows
that caresses barren trees,
there is no other motion,
not even slightest breeze...
and then there is a movement
on stealthy silent feet...
a silouetted phantom
moving quick in mute retreat...
a fox-like apparition
in but an instant disappears.
it's one of Nature's wonders
her nighttime buccaneers.
As fleeting as he came,
he quickly vanishes from sight...
leaving me entranced with
the sweet magic of the night.

A sly little slice of life poem. Well constructed as always, you American girl with British writing sensibilities.

Awe, Simon, that is so sweet of you to say. I actually thought of you, as I was standing on the porch, watching the clouds drift by, and watching that fox! Great to see you!
