The Midnight Jaunt

the night was dark and strangely eerie
void of stars and moonlight, queery...
no breeze astir, no sound or rustle...
as spirits danced in silent tussle...

the woods alit with glowing eyes
along the path screamed silent cries...
the air was chill with dark intent...
to lure all passersby, content.

barren trees with grasping fingers
extended to grab who foolish lingers.
tangled roots reached up ensnaring
all who trod across them daring.

shadows loomed, in haunting presence
refracting spooky evil essence.
beckoned all unto its prison...
to torment till the sun was risen.

the night was dark and strangely eerie
void of stars and moonlight, leery...
changed my mind for midnight jaunting
woods this night were just too daunting.

Thanks, Amy! I was walking the dog that night and he was intent on venturing where this angel feared to tread! LOL

Scarier than Halloween night as the "real, but unknown" in nature chases you home. Powerful imagrey and vivid imagination combine in this mood filled piece to send chills of familiarity up my spine. Bravo!

No_Clue - Tell that poem to a kid and you'll be up all night trying to get that kid to get the eyes closed. Sure was well put together with words planted along the pathway for the wind to shake so that the readers might also shake a little anyway. A finely done poem. Thanks.

      Gus :-)))

Some woods can be scary even by daylight! Enjoyable Hub, brought me back to the woods behind my house when I lived in Conn.

CMCastro, thanks! There is a little path behind my son's apt that leads into the woods and every evening when I take the dog out, he wants to venture into that dark path...that is where this came from...

EE thanks for the read and comment! Glad you liked it!

Beautiful imagery I should not want to venture into the woods this night. This work was very creative and it took me into a world of Poe adventure.
