The Mighty Oak Tree

Updated on March 12, 2013
Source

Majestically it stands

Reaching its arms up to the sky

Breeze blowing softly

Rustling the leaves quietly

Birds nesting in the branches

Singing joyfully

Squirrels chattering

Running to and fro

It has lived here in this field

As long as any can remember

Maybe since time began

Who’s to say

The Oak has lived

Through storms, so many

Branches have fallen

Sprouts have blossomed

Many feathered friends

Have made this tree home

Many children have swung playfully

From its sturdy limbs

Over the years

Many lovers have picnicked

Sitting on a blanket

Under nature’s canopy

Still it stands there

So magnificently powerful

Looking over the field

As if safeguarding all who pass

The Protector they call it

Keeper of the field

Standing proudly year after year

Waiting for the next picnic

Lindalou, what a powerful message you have presented in your poem. I love trees. Every time I pass this certain tree by the park, I recite the poem by Joyce Kilmer. Your poem is one that I will cherish in my thoughts as well. Voted up and beautiful.

Beautiful symbolism of the mighty oak. So reflective of some individuals In my life who've stood back and watched as well.

      Great write.

Voted up and beautiful. A great tribute to the oak. I have a wonderful oak tree in my garden and I never fail to go and stand by it and get some energy from it. Passing this on.

That was a very lovely poem Linda! I love the perspective you gave, the tree standing tall, seeing everything, witnessing history and all of life. Wonderful job my friend!

Thank you so much!! This was inspired by huge acorns that fall off of my oak and hit my house (metal roof) quite loudly!!

I love big old oak trees. They really are majestic trees and I always imagine that they've seen a lot over their many years. You've captured that feeling beautifully in this poem.
