The Moon Calls to Bravewarrior - a Poem

Updated on February 6, 2015
Do you see the bottom left flat side of the moon? I gurantee you, it won't be fully round for two days. My Cherokee eyes have not failed me yet!

The Moon and I

Have a connection.

It leads me in my direction.

The Moon speaks to my Cherokee Spirit –

I never fail to predict its fullness –

Ever.

The Moon sets the clarity on which I lie

In anticipation of the newly arising sun

By which a new day’s dawning will

Give me purpose.

The Moon speaks to my Cherokee Spirit.

I revel in its still revelations.

I discover myself and redeem my invocation.

The Moon is my Star,

the Guiding Light of my Cherokee Soul.

I look to the sky for Cherokee’s Gods and

That of White Man

I revel in both.

I am Bravewarrior!

Peace,

Bravewarrior

Bill knowing how you feel about poetry, and this one follows no pattern other than how it came to my soul, I am honored that you are the first to lay a bed on my feathers. I love you, my friend!

      bravewarrior,

Such a great poem by one who feels the sounds of the drums. I love writing poems and stories about American Indians.

I have Indian ancestors---so my cousins says and he did our family tree.

      Thanks again for sharing.

Shauna - A person isn't half of anything, they are completely themselves. Heritage only means something to the bigot for the most part. I have Italian in my heritage, and I did love Italy when I was there, but I'm me, and have to live with that. I'm not my father, or grandfather, or beyond that. I'm me, and you're you! Both human beings in a screwed up world looking for answers to questions that most ignore asking. Yet, knowing where one came from is not bad, but where we're going is more important. Strong poem! : )

Stellar heritage poetry, my friend! I could hear the drums beating and smell the smoke rising into the air.

Seriously, any of us with Native American Indian blood understand the special pride we feel for our ancestors.

Tonight when you look up at the moon, those little lights making their way across the sky are your fireflies.

Bobbie, thank you for your lovely comment. I was looking at the moon last night determining it will be full on Tuesday when the words struck me like a drum!

Mhatter, I'm so glad you got and appreciated my drift!

btrbell, thank you for stopping by an leaving such a wonderful comment!

Linda, I love my Cherokee heritage. It's not much percentage wise, but it's strong in my spirit.

Rich, my bloodline is actually Italian, English, Irish, German, Scottish and Cherokee - in that order. I'm kinda all over the place!

Beckie, you know how much I love my fireflies - and you!

If Americans could live life with the Indian mindset, we would be a loving people. We would share our wares and teach oneness with the world. Yet White Man had to diminish the American Indian to nothing in order to reap profit from their land. That, my friend, was the beginning of our end!

This striking poem reminds me of a novel I've read a long time ago about a young Cherokkee boy and his family. Can't remember the title! But I was so impressed with the respect this race had for Nature and their humble approach towards life. While most races have an arrogant and self-righteous approach.

Voted up and amazing: The seeds of our personality are in our genes.

Mmmmm...Shauna, i sooo understand that...feeling - that something that is such a small part of you - seems to hold so much sway! I feel the same way about my 'libraism' - and - i'm not that big a supporter of the zodiac..lol

None the less - i feel the attributes of a libra move me and govern me - so - i get you perfectly..

      voting up and sharing onward..

Dim Flaxenwick, I don't post often, but I have many in my repertoire. I'm thrilled you found this. The moon calls to me and is more true than Man. Does that sound cold? Perhaps, but it is the truth of my soul.

      Hi Shauna,

Love this poem so much, you are such a talented soul in quite a variety of styles. I have always been a fan of Native Americans. How something that is a small part of your bloodline can have such a profound effect is awesome. beautifully written oh bravewarrior!

Voted up, awesome, interesting, shared and pinned to poetry.

Suzi, I'm surprised to see you in this corner of my circle. (I know - that makes no sense!) I wasn't aware you like poetry. Thanx for your awesome comment. My 'variety of styles' is proving to be a bit troublesome for me. I'm in the process of working ideas to build a website/blog but I don't know which niche to capture. As you can see, I'm not really set on a single niche. I'm all over the place depending on where my creativity takes me!

Thanx so much for the shares. Whoo hoo!! :-)

Flourish, I think it's more like they have reached to me. It's a part of my spirit. I think that's a gift and not something that I really reached for. I'm sure they are pleased I embrace their gift. And so am I!

Bravewarrior This is truly one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read! Voted up and awesome! LOVE the accompanying pictures, especially the moon and the log cabin. LOVE your statement, 'the moon sets the clarity on which I lie in anticipation of the newly arising sun by which a new days dawning will give me purpose' WOW, what a way to start the day with those beautiful words. I am a 'moon' watcher, I LOVE looking at the moon, it is such a miracle from God. ...the guiding light of my Cherokee soul...WOW, if I were a teacher and you my student I would give you an A PLUS on this one. Your heart and soul shine throughout this exquisite piece of writing! God bless always Sparklea :)
