Rocky mountain horses ....free verse

Updated on May 2, 2016

I ride on horseback into wild flowered fields of
mountain colors wondering and
unknowing their names

And the audacity of colors brilliant the peaceful
air infectious and forever
blowing among timeless dreams

Around each promise of this new beginning my dreams
arise with a heart full of
solace and universal forgiveness

For once out of doors the soul of a man becomes
something totally unknown unpredictable
and unbound

The horses ears turn to my snicker
awaiting the next commands
as if one with my thoughts

With my knees and the reigns I bend his long body
and play with his unbound loyalty and know
we are one

And I become all knowing of the nativist
horseback riders
of eons ago who knew much about meaninless things

They knew it all for they were timeless
limitless and though now long forgotten
very much godlike

Made my hairs stand on end with the goodness of life. What a nice carry away.

Great poem . Wow, I'd love to ride in the rocky mountains. I've flown over them and listened to a few John Denver songs so that will have to do for now!

Beautiful tribute to the horses and the "nativist horseback riders." Every new rider keeps their spirits alive.

Great poem and I really enjoyed it. Just wondering, though, did you mean ions (electrically charged atoms) or aeons, which seems to fit better?

Most wonderful poetry. Could just imagine riding on a horse with the wind racing by. Made me want to sing Rocky Mountain High.
