The Need to Be Entertained

Updated on November 18, 2010

I see a face that can't be allowed...

happiness can't come to rich or proud...

miserable in my state in grace...

reading these rags sent out into space...

Wal Mart, Target, Macy's and more...

I work here, I shop here, need I say more?

Lets see if photo, recording or tape...

proof of their weaknesses, human disgrace...

restores my faith that faithlessness is key...

happiness farce, nothing to see...

never look up or you just might fall...

course that's why I refuse every mountain appalled...

drinking my gall...

to say what I say and do what I do...

in surety that you can't be what I won't be...

to remove the savor of pie...

so eating crow, luckier you won't be...

Tell me dear people...

why should you repine?

You got what you paid for...

Why can't I get mine?

If I am willing to bleed in ways you will not...

It is worthy that you should have what you have got...

tell me your story of woe and dismay...

I will show you a soul who goes out of their way...

topple your ideals, remade mirrors of you...

oh, what a farce...

So close that news paper, rag, and the like...

Put down that shovel...

That pit's deep enough...

Oops...

Blaaam, splash....

You can't get out...

tough.

Ha ha, darkly funny, especially the "splash" ending. Macys, Target, etc... a reminder that we are in the holiday season grind. Ugh!

It is a dark piece, and I'm not a Happy Holiday Shopper...I fake it to get by...Are you looking for the true meaning in this Commercial World of ours? LOL!

Perhaps I am. I look for many things. I may not find all of them but I look all the same. I can't always help that I don't like what I see. Thanks Doug and Malin for stopping by.

Hi Jaggedfrost, One aspect of your poem that I don't why for sure but it was "miserable in my state in grace' for me. I think because even though I am saved by God's grace sometimes I'm miserable. I can also relate to the overall feeling your poem gives off.

I think we are all unhappy some times. I am sorry about that. Sometimes religion for its splendor and power, isn't meant to keep us from experiencing problems and pain. I have always considered it a small price to follow Christ and that helps most days but not all.

The poem was written from two points of view that were broken by stanza. One is the audience being addressed... the other is a perspective on that point of view. Just something to think about. I am glad it touched you all the same.
