The One Truth

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

I could dispute the world on many levels,

pull apart paradigms of religion, philosophy and politics,

grind them into the ground,

crucify belief with proof and alternative ideals,

but to what avail.

We may contend and argue ad infinitum,

over faith, evidence, assumptions and wisdom,

yet all that’s left in the end is disagreement,

and the darkness of anger.

Beyond creed, beyond will, beyond archetypes,

there is one truth that attaches itself to no dogma,

no limit of belief or expression,

and that is love.

If all systems of religion, philosophy and politics

were suddenly eradicated,

the only truth that could save this world is love,

the action of caring for one another,

in a selfless and open-hearted way.

This one truth would cut through all boundaries

of belief, culture and race

and create a world of potential.

As a writer I could debate the superficial,

argue perspectives and rationales,

but in the end my message is plain,

love is the answer.

I love that poem, Tony. I just wrote a hub on Lantern Carriers and I wish I could put your poem in it (credit you, of course) -- it is a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing that with me.

Thanks Phyllis, so glad you liked it. There's a little poem I wrote a long time ago that would mean much to you 'Lantern Carriers'

      All star-crossed with hallowed light,

      by night on lonely trail,

we of peace on destined path,

      do follow oar and sail.

We stood before all empty then,

      by candles hushed with night,

but now our world is daytime,

      with but our candle light.

      Take care.

"the only truth that could save this world is love,..."

I could not agree more, Tony. This is a truth we all must learn to open our eyes to. I am part of a group I started called "Lantern Carriers" and we come from the heart with love, to shine that light on as many people as we can. Your poem is a lantern to help others light their own lantern and allow it to spread. Thank you for carrying a light for others. UP and over except funny.
