The Play of Words

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

Significant the ties that bind us to reality,

yet weak our intention to acknowledge them,

or in recognition accept them,

and relinquish our deluded will.

Truth stings like a bitch,

each fragment of denial a metal shard,

at the end of a cat,

nine cuts with every stroke.

The pain is self-inflicted,

exacerbated by a fruitless determination,

to hold fast to the lies and inner dialogue of ego,

and the relentless denial of fault.

Eyes veiled in the pollution of thought,

seek the clarity of truth,

the acceptance of our true nature, propensity and potential,

always aligned to a rising sun, yet blinded by its stark affront.

We are hard, obstinate creatures,

always willing to accept graciously the rewards of self-gratification

yet reticent in accepting the responsibilities of inadequacy,

instead willing to play the arrogance of denial.

None shall bare the consequence of perfection,

so why do we pretend it so,

to our own detriment and illusory conclusions,

blinded by an ego fit for grand theater and the play of words.

If only we could believe our own words,

knowing that all along we were once removed,

reality a play before us, none too close to afford,

yet harsh in its efforts to bring us to attention.

Reality is a view seldom seen.

You're very kind Aubrey, and I am pleased my work impresses you. Hope I continue to impress and open your mind to the vista and art of poetry through this old soul, something I hold dearly. Welcome aboard my friend.

Umm... why haven't I read you before today?? That poem was MAGNIFICENT. You got every emotion and thought across so gracefully that I have a few tears coming down. Your words are powerful and fit the tone of the poem. It's a masterpiece my friend. I don't use the word "masterpiece often" so yeah I was very very impressed. Great Job Tony!!!

      Nice poem !

      Loved this line

"Eyes veiled in the pollution of thought,

      seek the clarity of truth,

the acceptance of our true nature, propensity and potential,

always aligned to a rising sun, yet blinded by its stark affront."
