"The Poetic Dance Between Light and Dark" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"The Poetic Dance Between Light and Dark"

The Devil be sex, and Jesus be love

As we all know what it is to be beloved

Wrapped in swaddling clothes, warm

Yet some are born unto the dumpster, cold and without

Societal trash from go

And so, how is it such a soul can obtain grace

When all that it has ever known is filth

And how to conduct one's self as they swim in it

But, even the ghetto knows the sun

So, we say, let there be none excused

Understand this gift of life

Take it for what it be

Light to dark, death unto life, and the poetic dance in between

Where some choose to make love and others make haste

Acquiring pleasures, administered to the body, as the mind controls, and the soul lay to waste

Waiting to be loved

Waiting to be held

And thus to be delivered

Again unto the basics of grace

The beauty of a mothers face

And a father to look upon him from above

And the devil in the corner, waiting on the innocence of love

To fade

To fall

To lose touch

To lose sight of it all

The one real thing

The only thing we truly know

The poetic dance between light and dark

Oh, how I missed your creativity. No one does quite what you do, they way you do it.

Thank you very much Lisa, I'm glad to see the word "real" used to describe this poem; that's what I feel about it, it is a real struggle, yet deceptive and subversive.

Yes, I like the imagery of swimming in filth! Good write, thought provoking!

Deep, dark and real Eric. A dance between good and bad, to choose what is right or what is wrong. To ignore or to help. A struggle of two worlds. Another great read.

How true, the devil does wait patiently on those falls from grace. However, God can bring us back to the light before it's too late. He constantly brings me back as I fall into depression on and off, but he has taught me how to do that poetic dance between light and dark through my words, which I feel can be beautifully expressed and help heal as well. Great poem Eric! :)
