The Poet - A Poem

Updated on March 8, 2012

The Poet

It’s winter in my lonely house

Dark in my room

I turn on the lights

And they only reveal pain

In the mystic haze of questions

And the heart a crimson mess

"Suicide! Suicide!"

Someone’s scream tore through the silence

“Suicide! Suicide!

The boy wants to be a poet!”

They said.

Too short? Was it a haiku? You can try writing a brief preface for the poem, you know like where and when you wrote it and stuff? What were you feeling that time, I mean your mindset etc. That should increase the word count. How about an image too? :)

Sir, please don't humble me by using terms/titles like 'Sir', 'Deep' actually happens to be my first name! And thank you so much for taking the time to read my work and commenting. Appreciations are mutual.

Thank you Angela and Y Battle. This is a poem of deep personal passion. It's one of my favorite poems as well.

Well done piece. I enjoyed reading it; thinking about the poem and it's crafting--the decision, the desire to write, the need to write--make me smile.

Absolutely not. I appreciate your criticism. I'll post more poems.

Awesome stuff! Where was this Deep Meta for so long? Stop posting crappy fables and post more poems. You're a true poet not a fable writer. Don't mind the criticism.

Thank you for the remarks Vincent. Wow, you've summarized a poet's life so well.

Welcome to the screams in the night, the candle dims and the wax spills to the damp floor in our chamber room. The bottle rolls from the kick we gave it while twitching in our chair as the Raven watches with yellow eye and darkened wing, grinning under it's beak. The Poet scribes through his pain, while his Muse hides in the shadows of his chamber room. Welcome my scribe to the Hubs, you are amongst some fine writers here. Enjoy your stay and keep writing, you have the gift.
