The Power of Four

Updated on August 24, 2010

The English language is a very diverse language with roots in many ancient languages - Latin, Greek , Norse  to name a few.  Certain words have the power to evoke memories and emotions that are hidden beneath the exterior and to me many of these words consist of 4 letters - home, love, food, work, baby .

It is said that home is where the heart is and I have been 'welcomed home' in several  different countries  despite my  bricks and mortar home being in England.

Love takes many forms  - the love of a partner, the love of a parent  towards a child and the love of a belief or faith.

Food can be food that we eat to sustain our bodies, it can be spiritual food to nourish the soul or even a beautiful sight - think of the saying 'feast your eyes on that'.

Baby  means  a new life (yet another 4 letter word),  and it is used in the English language as a term of endearment.  It also means something tiny(4 letters) or a miniature version.

The word four is also found frequently  in English expressions - to stand foursquare , to travel to the four corners of the earth are but two .  There are four main compass points, north, south, east and west and four seasons, celebrated in music by Vivaldi.

To me four is a good(four letters again) strong word with many happy associations.
