The Red Candle

Updated on April 23, 2016

The red candle on the shelf
Was almost forgotten
It was a gift way back then
Once upon a Valentine’s Day

Dust covered the red ribbon
Wrapped with a plastic cover
You can’t see anymore
The red heart inside the dusty glass

It was already a plan
To light it on our anniversary
But things went wrong
And we never recovered

The red candle was stored
Far away from our memory
Bittersweet memoirs of the past
Still haunts our future

I decided to burn the past
To let it float through the smoke
From this red candle
That was already forgotten

Beautiful metaphors for moving on, Spy. You haven't lost your touch!

That was a powerful poem, and I'm certain that it hits home with many of us.

Beautifully expressed. Better to let the past go and be free.

Wow. Expressive is the word, I think.

Beautiful! And so sad, how many of us have that red candle?
