The Reign of Death

Updated on July 16, 2015

The Introduction

Life always begins at a point in time and ends at a point in time. The end part of life is enabled by the activities of the invisible personality called Death. This dreaded personality always climaxes life unannounced and that is the part that makes him dreadful among the living.

This poem talks of the activities of death in the lives of the living and how the living relates with him.

Death and its reign

1. Who longs to climb the ladder of death,

Yet the sons of men are always on its path,

As if it saddens not the soul,

As if its guardian stings not,

But inflicts the worst of pain.

2. The heart beats harder,

And its sound is louder,

It shivers and shakes the temple of man,

And questions the worth of life,

Which we cherish all day long.

3. A father dies, a wife cries,

Bastards and widows are born,

Against the will of their souls,

Likely to lose their bearings,

And be corrupted by strange voices.

4. Oh you who hates and denies bribe,

Lest the affluent take advantage,

And make you their servant,

On your own playground,

To command and control your might.

5. Enjoy your reign over the lives of men,

Take whoever and whatever you long for,

The clock keeps ticking,

As the sons of the earth await,

For your day of reckoning draws nigh.

The Discussion

Stanza 1

In reality, on one looks forward to having an encounter with Death even though we know of his existence. No man would like to have anything to do with this dreadful personality. However, the activities of men, knowing or unknowingly, puts them in that situation which makes them vulnerable and sets them as prey unto Death.

Stanza 2

Death always puts man in a state he believes he never bargained for. The writer describes how it feels to lose a loved one to this dreadful personality. Such feeling is also witnessed when the name of this dreadful personality is heard in any household.

Stanza 3

The writer describes the aftermath of the activities of this dreadful personality in the lives of men. A whole lot happens when Death strikes. His activities in the lives of mankind are disastrous and inflicts pain all the time.

Stanza 4

It is the wish of all, especially the wealthy in the society, to know and understand who this dreadful personality really is and how best they can relate with him to help minimize or if possible, mitigate the dreaded effects of the activities of this dreadful personality. Rather unfortunate a solution has not been arrived at yet.

Stanza 5

Despite the fact that there seem not to be any solution to mitigate the activities of this dreadful personality in the lives of men, it is also obvious that there is a declared end to this dreadful personality. The only problem lies with how soon that end would be.
