The Secret Suitor

Updated on January 8, 2017

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia with my hubby, Martin & cat, Sid.

He came like a secret suitor,

unexpected and suddenly,

He wasn’t dressed in a suit and tie,

but he had a certain charm

and when he came,

I knew he meant not harm

and he swept me off my feet.

He was the north wind,

so majestic and powerful,

blowing all about me,

pushing me to and fro,

with great big gusts,

nearly carrying me -

to the skies above.

The north wind kept blowing

and I spread my arms,

just like wings,

and it seemed like my feet,

were feather light,

the north wind and I were dancing.

Dancing with the wind,

is like being a whirling dervish,

a spinning top,

that never seems to know how to stop.

Breathtaking and dizzy

and so very, very cold.

When the north wind,

takes a hold, a move so very bold,

no matter how cold the day,

the faster you spin,

he delights in pushing you farther.

We danced down the road

and when we got to my garden gate,

I quickly stepped inside

and turned to make a bow.

Thank you for the dance,

it was pure enchantment,

next time let me have another chance

and the north wind

swept off down the road.

Nice to hear from you Martie. Yes, that cold winter wind sure does inspire. When it blows you gotta dance.

Beautiful, Rasma. I loved the spirit of this poem. The North wind can be tumultuous and irresistible.

I had visions of Dorothy being swept up in a tornado, but it wasn't scary. Rather, it was exhilarating.

      Nice, Rasma!
