The Secrets of a Good Writer
What are the secrets of a good writer?
Now this question is a very difficult question to answer as every writer has their own little secret, trick or style in writing. Being a good writer is a gift and also a talent that is quiet special. Every writer is different, there is no right or wrong, but there are some qualities in a good writer that only good writers know, and those qualities can be quiet unique. A good writer loves to write, loves to read and writes a lot. A good writer is always humble and not arrogant, doesn’t boast about how great he or she is as a writer and never brags about winning awards or accolades.
Good writers are very good at writing and proofreading. They never stop writing and proofreading their work even if they have to do it 100 times. Good writers stay focused and dedicated to writing, even if they have to make sacrifices like staying up late at night to do writing or writing on a Sunday afternoon. A good writer is a writer who writes almost every day and has lots of new and interesting things to write about. A good writer has something that readers love to read from start to finish and want more. Their writing is absolutely addictive and people can get hooked on it quite easily.
The secret to being a good writer is having stories to tell and the secret to telling good stories as a writer is to use PEARLS. PEARLS stands for people, empathy, audience, relationship, language and stories and you want to use PEARLS as a writer. Good writers can use simple language that a child can understand and tell stories that have valuable life lessons and great wisdom unlike any other.
The secret of a good writer is having the ability to use scriptures in writing to speak words of truth and wisdom. In the scriptures it says “My heart overflows with good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” (Psalm 45:1)
Even good writers start simple and start slow, and gradually develop their talent until their writing ability is very articulate like an engaging writer. Being an engaging writer is a rare gift, but it is a talent which can also be developed with great passion and love for writing just like how fine piano players play for hours to master their skills on the piano. A good writer never stops writing and writes every day to master his or her writing skills. An engaging writer can always write new and interesting things that readers love to read and gets the readers ‘on the hook’ with their engaging style of writing.
Writing is an art, and it’s a fine art which can be developed with lots of practice, dedication, passion and hard work. Writing has to be a passion and not a chore. If it’s not a passion, but a chore, you will never develop the fine art of writing and become an engaging writer or get the readers ‘on the hook’ with your writing. Writing is a gift when you have passion and love for writing, it’s a gift that can grow old with you and you never have to stop writing.
The key to being a good writer is being articulate with words, being a wordsmith in writing. A good writer is also a master of the point of view, and can skilfully grab your attention with words so you can see and hear the story. Telling the story, sharing the story and describing the story is the skill of a good writer. Another secret to being a good writer is being able to rewrite the same thing over and over again, but spelt differently adding a different flavor to the original piece.
Some of the key traits that good writers have include empathy and being able to feel the words and their tone. Empathy is the ability to connects words with emotions and make people laugh and cry. A good writer has empathy and he or she can connect with the reader at a deeper level and be engaged. What makes good writers stand out is their unique style of writing, the little quirks that you find in their personality and the influences they get from other writers.
Mastering hooks and hangers in writing is a very good skill to have as a writer, keeping readers excited and wanting more. Hooks are very effective in grabbing the attention of readers and hangers are good for encouraging readers to stick around for more new and exciting material. The engaging writer is a master of hooks and hangers and it’s very effective in writing. Hooks and hangers are like spices and using the right amount can create the desired effect to engage the reader, so be engaged as a writer.
Good writers never stop learning and they never stop learning from other writers. A talented writer has the ability to learn new things, tell stories, make up stories, share life lessons, seek out truth and wisdom, share words of wisdom and engage the reader by being an engaging writer. So be engaged in writing. In the bible it says “The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.” (Proverbs 18:4)
A good writer will never boast about being a great writer or brag about being good at writing and above all else, a good writer is humble and writes.
