The Silent Neighbor

Updated on November 29, 2012

She sat outside the door
on a grate
at the top of the cement stairs.
With her back
against the brick wall.
Observing everyone
who walked by.

Never speaking,
but staring
with a sinister smirk
on her face.
Cigarette in hand
puffing away.
Brown stringy hair
and a harden face.

A look of disdain
for everyone
who walks by.

A sad piece of humanity.
Perhaps a hidden truth,
hold the key to her freedom.

...or perhaps she is the only one that sees society for what it really is, and the "sad piece of humanity" is actually the majority of humanity itself. I like this a lot--it's simple, but it makes you think about this woman, her past, and why she thinks like she does.
