The Six Letter Word

Updated on May 26, 2011

The Six Letter Word

Its a six letter word
that packs a powerful punch,
striking terror within
based on merely a hunch.
Wrecks havoc and mayhem
wherever its found...
often silent but deadly
when it is around.
An enigma to all
in the medical world,
its cause or its cure
has not, yet, been unfurled.
Indiscriminate in nature,
haphazard at best...
it presents where it will
in the worst or the best.
Its a formidible foe
in a battle for life...
this six letter word that can
outwit the knife.
Many defeat it and
others will yield...
the outcome for any
seldom quickly revealed.
Its treatment, sometimes
is worse than its sting...
this six letter word
that's a curse of a thing.
So, it may be assigned
and the battle line drawn,
but we shall press forward
with faith, victory spawn.

Awwww, thanks BeyondMax. This was written just about a year ago, when My oldest son was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma. I was in shock, and could not let him see my fear. But God is good, and so far so good. He has another scan in August and we will know more then. I appreciate your prayers...they are what gets us through!

Cancer takes on many forms in our lives today and in many ways. I have lost several loved ones because of it and in varying degrees. The key element for survival, seems to be one has to be of a strong will, wanting to fight...not to give in or give up. I am sorry to hear this six letter word has a part in your family's lives, through your son. You will definitely be in my prayers and in my thoughts. My hopes are that God will keep you in his strength and in comfort, as only he can give.

Hi No_Clue this is an excellent poem and very well written. I'm so sorry to hear about your son. He will be in my prayers. May his faith be that of a mustard seed. To say to that mountain (cancer) be tossed in the sea, and it will be done! I voted you up all the way!!! God Bless you and your family! :-)

      Dear No_Clue...

I pray that you and your son remain strong in his battle with this terrible monster, the big "C," and remain spiritually strong as well. It's gonna be quite a rollercoaster ride for all of you.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for him to quickly come through this with a clean bill of health on the other side of this dark tunnel.

Much love and peace to you and yours.

My sincerest thanks to you all. My son is a man of great faith, who nurtures a wonderful relationship with God. This new challenge has come as a blow, but, certainly not a defeat, and with God's help we will press on. My way of dealing with any and all of the ventures that have come my way in life is to commit them to paper, and to share as it comes is an honor. I am grateful for your thoughts, prayers and support.

Dear No_Clue, The human spirit is so resilient and our greatest ally. I know it has great impact on our health. I am glad to hear your son is relentless. That tenacious, fighting spirit will serve him well. Your poetry packs a brilliant one-two punch. It's a knock-out, which matches your son's spirit. I have to say, though, that I am sorry that he and everyone that loves him, must face this challenge. None of us know from one day to the next what obstacles await us. Nevertheless, it's a path none of us would choose. My thoughts are with you, No_Clue.

Such an intriguing way of putting it, since my Dad has another diagnosis of it, and my brother is a Physician in Oncology. I claim health and well being, and man's decision to treat the condition as if it is a fatal end can have a deep effect on one who is not Spiritual.

I like those Virtual Body Scanners that they have, wish it was available to all of us @ no charge. One visit to one Doctor. It is so time consuming to go to one specialist after another.

I wish only God's Health and Happiness to you.

      I assume you mean 'cancer'?

I've heard it myself...twice, and yes, it is frightening and the treatment is no picnic. But I'm still here.

      Well done.
