October in Glastonbury

October is a wonderful time here in Britain.  The darkened mornings, the chill in the air. Glastonbury, Somerset is magnificent and beautiful.

We have the greatest vision of natural displays from the starlings. They are gathering now and practising for the great show in the sky. They swirl in unison and create great moving patterns in an air bound cloud.

This video gets really interesting at 1 min 40 - take a look!

Glastonbury Levels - A Winter Heaven

Looking beyond to the levels, we observe great hues of mist, hovering over this green and pleasant land.

Such a magical scene, one can imagine the lady of the lake piercing its whiteness with Excalibur.

This picture was taken from Glastonbury Tor, mid morning.

The Reveal!
The Reveal!

What about the spiders?!

This, however, is the worst time of year for the spiders. They get very hungry. These are hard times to survive in.

To compensate, more webs are created. This increases the likelihood of catching some poor unsuspecting insect.

The flies, of course, are laughing! Why?

The mist sets in the morning and the dew settles to crown the land – it sparkles with jewels. With this the spider’s secret is peeled. For all and sundry, the curtains unveil and low and behold – webs are revealed!

Avoiding the trap is the key here and with such a display, insects can run off and play!

Spiders and beautiful women: two things to be very careful about.

It is an artistic way of looking at it, I guess. It must be an awful realisation to struggle in a web.. no escape! The spider's long legs engulfing your being as it wraps the entangled web into a cocoon around you. You are helpless and resigned to your destiny.

I don't want to scare you but the spider might be thinking... 'come into my parlour, it is the most beautiful parlour you will admire.' The web will look inviting and whooooooosh... another bite for the collection. Then... next! More is not enough for the spider! More tasty insects to choose .. or not!

      Thanks for reading! x

Part of me looks at spiders with electric revulsion, another part cannot help but be fascinated by their webs and mode of survival. I wonder what it's LIKE to be a spider? What are their thoughts?
