The Student Nurse; A Limerick

Updated on February 1, 2015
tobusiness profile image

Jo has been an ITU nurse at the London North West NHS Trust for 14 years. She obtained her RN at University College London Hospital.

Most of my poems have been a little gloomy recently, to lighten things up a bit I decided to try a funny limerick.

This is my very first attempt at writing a Limerick, inspired by Mhatter, I decided to give it a try. I hope you like it, the limerick is based on one of many tales told when I was a student nurse.

Source

The Student Nurse

There once was a young student nurse

Who heard everything in reverse

So eager to please

Till the doc intercede

No no, I said prick his boil, nurse

For the Poet Mhatter

There once was a man named Mhatter

A consummate poet and jester

He writes to impress

And this I must stress

Don't ever mess with the master

Graham, it is always a pleasure to see you. I'm well chuffed to know that you enjoyed the poems, but, alas, HP appears to have lost their sense of humour. So, no, I haven't written any naughty limericks lately. ;) Best wishes, I hope all is well with you.

Hi Jo. Both are excellent and your tribute is well founded. However I have to congratulate you on the last line of 'The student nurse' it made me smile and then roar with laughter. A real touch of innocent fun. Any more?

      Graham.

I hope your hubby enjoyed his breakie. Always lovely to see you. I hope you're having a terrific day my friend.

I'll be over to yours in the morning, just off to bed. Take care and my best to you.

amazmerizing, no need to be scared, that nurse most probably went on to become an exceptionally capable nurse.

However, that patient had a real close shave. ;) great to see you, have a lovely day.

Hi Ghaelach, I think you're right, peachpurple, bless her, must have got me and Martin a bit mixed up. I'm just glad she took the time to look up this old limerick. I was thinking about Martin myself, I haven't seen his work on HP lately so I took a look on G+, looks like he is still posting his poems, so I guess he is OK. Really nice to see you, all the best for 2015

      Morning Joe.

I'm not sure what to laugh at, the Limerick of the nurse or your reply to peachpurple's comment. Peachpurle is probably getting mixed up with you showing Martin's photo with the tribute to the master of the Limerick. Sadly we don't see him any more, at least not on HP. I've seen him around on other sites thought.

Take care Joe, have a nice day and say hello to my homeland for me.

A nurse I know well went to bed -

Hearing tractor engines in her head,

She sat up quickly and saw

It was an MD being a bore,

So she slept in the generator room instead!

      [Happy New Year in arrears],
