The Sun Rises Anew

By Tony DeLorger © 2014

A page turns, silently,

and the blank pristine white pulp beckons,

opportunities, circumstances and paths untold,

whisper with a seductive siren-like tone,

and we on the brink of history, listen.

All the mind can muster brims within consciousness,

all the promises, the failures and triumphs of past,

fight for a place of thought, of reason,

and the moments when steps are taken into new thresholds,

along with the choices that define our life's course.

That orb rises ever so gently into a deepening azure sky,

and marks the recognition of a single breath,

that first and definitive gasp of living,

accepting all those challenges, the pain and the joy,

knowing only the will to ensue, to survive.

In the silence of this rebirth, I consider,

review all that has come before,

and that knowing, of experience, of struggle and deliverance,

warms my heart in the belief that I have purpose,

and that life is a gift of immeasurable proportions.

I see potential in all that abounds,

and tears fall for all that has been lost,

yet the price of wrong doing has its own reward,

in penance and the learning that only suffering can afford,

and I am still here, renewed in this cycle called life.

Welcome to 2014.

I really see a hope in this poem even through the struggles. New Years is always a time for new hopes and dreams. Happy New Year Tony.

Glad you appreciated the sentiment Sheila. Thanks for dropping by. The blank page to me, is infinite opportunity and challenge, and the door to pure creativity. In that, it has become my home and indeed, a way of life.

As a poet and artist, I have a love/hate relationship with the blank page or canvas. And though I face the white emptiness with self-doubt much of the time, New Year's remains my favorite holiday. In facing the blank page and pushing past that nagging inner critic, there is always hope. Well done.

You comment much appreciated Jane. I have spent my life in this pursuit, questioning everything with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. It is who I am and being a writer is simply part of that. You live in a very beautiful city; absolutely love London (was there a few months ago). Wish you all the best for 2014.

Beautiful words. Every day we have a chance to write a new page on the canvas of life. Thank God we have that respite of sleep in order for us to start again. I came with you to the place you were in when putting your thoughts on the canvas. It is a marvellous thing working out why we're here and what our purpose is?
