The Swing

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Ropes creaking,

swinging,

whooshing passed,

pointed feet, stretching,

shifting weight,

leaning back,

digging deep to propel,

forward acceleration,

hair flowing back.

Every swing

exhilaration,

wind against face,

eyes closed with pleasure.

Higher, then higher still,

the world a blur,

a coloured stream,

outside, separate.

Thoughts on clouds,

soft and weightless,

gently touch,

soothing.

That old swing,

my island,

my sanctuary.

      Hi Tony,

Lovely poem...I use to love swinging as a child and even as a young adult I could not help myself..something about the freedom of moving back and forth, being able to see so far..We use to do the spider where two people would sit opposite directions..or turn it so tight and let go..jumping out hurt..but would do it over and over again.. Thank you for a wonderful poem and bringing back some great memories..

I loved my old swing set. I had my own in our backyard.
