The Thunderstorm

Updated on August 7, 2012

The wind whips swiftly through the trees

Lightening streaks across the skies

Trees bend as if they’ll snap

Raindrops splash with a constant tap

Thunder booms like gallant drums

The earth shakes as if in fear

Leaves scatter across the ground

Sometimes spinning ‘round and ‘round

Rabbits run to their tunnels, so deep

As birds fly quickly to their nest of twigs

Waves on the lake have crests of white

Winds will howl throughout the night

The thunderstorm moves across the land

Stirring, disturbing everything it touches

The storm moves away to complete its quest

But, ‘til the storm is over, there’ll be no rest

I could picture the storm, with all its sights and sounds. I loved the line "Thunder booms like gallant drums", and I like the way the poem ends with the storm continuing on. Very nice! Voted up and beautiful!
