The Truth Shall Set us Free

Updated on June 3, 2017

Whether a Southern boy, who drawls in almost every word,

A sophisticated editor-in-chief, with perfect diction, is heard.

Can't you be both, a mispronounced tendency as just to hide,

Live down south on a plantation, only a language to confide?

Aa an editor of a local newspaper, who once had said to me,

I'm so very proud of my roots, for the truth will set you free.

Listen heah, ol boy, us local gents, all ain't ashamed to say,

Although I'm Black and you are White, we all here to stay.

Of course, I knew that he could speak, English so superb,

Every noun and pronoun in its place, each adjective, verb.

It tickled me and we had a laugh, shared that day, you see,

My friend who I played Tennis with, on this we could agree.

The racial labels, names we're given, not to reveal our soul,

Hidden inside, so well to abide, a grandest intellect to extoll.

While often the dull of mind professing callousness so bold.

Disrespect, so select, the bearers formed of their own mold.

How often heard a mispronounced word, held in disrespect,

When closer examination, its source, to be as circumspect.

Emotions concealed, to be revealed, in all due time, at last,

Each one's true worth, preserved at birth, in hearts held fast.

Just what is truth, its definition, that meaning from its seeds,

The factual revelation as seen, those rights of human needs.

A justification of every question, answers given appropriately,

The rights all earned by wars and quests, sought by humanity.
