The Vampire Inside Me - A Poem

Updated on October 7, 2013

I like the tiny hours

The silence feels so right

When chaos has slipped off his shoes

And is tucked in for the night

Exploring in the stillness

When the world calms to my speed

I high-five Mr. Sandman

As he drugs those who are weak

There is a vampire inside me

Who craves darkness over light

I stake the vampire daily

And yet she's still alive

Will she ever flourish

Create the world she needs

Or will she go on dying

Among the ones who bleed

Great poem, especially for this time of year! It also made me think of Bella and Edward.

Good expression. I think it resonates with all us night people, even if some of us aren't vampires. Voted up+

Thanks for all the lovely comments. This is a personal poem so I'm sure it probably doesn't make much sense to anyone but me. There are several meanings here for me and I took a chance by publishing this weird piece - I really appreciate the support!

That's me. I love the night and can work all through it with no problem heading for bed in the morning light. Enjoyed this.

Thanks so much Gypsy Rose Lee. I wonder sometimes if my preference for nighttime has anything to do with being born around midnight?
