The Weight of the World

I am a mother, a metal head, a goth girl, and lover of all darkness. I'm also a writer, a cake decorator, and a general weirdo. FUN!

An introduction, short and sweet, so as to not interrupt the flow of my poetry. Anxiety sucks.

Surrounded by darkness

a million pounds of dirt on top of me

It’s the weight of the world

I can’t breathe

I hear you speaking

I feel your presence

I know you’re there to help me

I reach out for you

I’m blind

There’s dirt in my eyes

In my mouth

In my lungs

I can’t breathe

I’m suffocating down here

Can you help me?

Can you pull me through?

Will you be my hero?

My savior?

My knight in shining armor?

Save me

I reach out for you

I can see a light

I know you’re there

So close

I feel your hand

On my fingertips

Grabbing my hand

You’re pulling

I’m buried so deep

So far down

It’s pitch black

Only a pinprick of light

You have my hand now

You’re pulling

And pulling

I can feel myself working free

The dirt begins to crumble

I can see more light

I’m slowly coming up

I can breathe a little more

Inch by inch

Little by little

You work me free

You’re bringing me up

I feel every piece of earth

Falling away

There is more and more light now

I’m almost out

I can smell the grass

I can smell you

A little farther now

A little harder now

I’m out to my stomach

I can see

I can breathe

You’re here with me

You’re still tugging

Pulling me free

I’m almost there

Just a little more

With one tiny tug

You pull me free

I collapse in your arms

You are my hero.

Becca, that was a pretty amazing piece of writing. Whenever someone is feeling as you described, I hope their is a hand ready to pull them from the darkness into the light.

    Very nice work.

Thank you for your kindness, Mike. I'm lucky to have someone helping me pull though this burden. If I didn't, I would be crushed by the weight of the world. : )

I apologize in advance because A) I am a drinker, B) I am immature, and D) I am illiterate and uncultured, but I couldn't help think this could have been titled: Romeo the Backhoe Operator and Juliette the Zombie.

Don't hate me. I just discovered your poetry and I'm really immature, but generally mean well and ... etc. :)
