The Woman In The Doorway (Part 7)

Updated on March 24, 2010

The Memories Of The Woman In The Doorway

"Good morning Jonathan" spoke Mrs Tuddley as he passed her sitting in the doorway. As he enter for work. She was just staring out.

"You know my grand baby will be here soon, and so will the holidays. We will pull out all the decoration so we can decorate."

"Why are you so down?" asked Jonathan.

"What make you say that?" she replied.

"Well for the last few months you sat in the doorway staring out down the walkway as if you are looking for someone with that pen and pad in your hands. And I'm starting to wonder if you are ok."

"Oh Jonathan it has not been the same from the day the store was robbed.I said I would not let that stand in my way;but for some reason it will not leave me a lone.I say that I'm ok;but I'm not.I can't tell my son and daughter how I feel.Joseph has his business to run and Trisha is expecting te baby. Why should I worry them with my problems? Lets put up the christmas tree.I will be fine."

"I'm worried about you Mrs.Tuddley.You are to silent these days;and all you do is sit at that old doorway an say you thinking.Thinking about what?"

Jonathan; I love my life. I have my good memories, but I'm lonely.

"Mrs.Tuddley I have noticed you have been forgetting things like locking up the store.Money laying around. You don't even do your morning and evening inventory on the store as you use to."

"I know I can't hide it;Hey Jonathan the tree looks great.Than she moved back to the doorway smiling and greeting her customers.Watching as the cars passed by.

"Hello Trisha" this is Jonathan,I need to speak with you concerning your mother.

"Is everything alright at the store?"

"Yes, the store is fine." stated Jonathan.

"Where is mother?" asked Trisha

"She stepped out for a minute. He went on to tell of the problems and conversation they had. I think she is lonely as she stated to me."

"I will talk to Joseph. We really try to respect all of mothers wishes. But it is time she come live with us.The baby will be here soon and I want the family all together.I know Joseph will agree with me on this situation very much.Thank you for call me Jonathan I really appreciate it."

"Good evening Mother,Trisha's voice on the other end of the line.Would you not want to come and live with us here in the city? Joseph and I have discussed it and hope that you would take us up on it.You can live here with Johnny and I are Joseph's place. What are your wishes? I want to let you know that we want you withus. With the holidays coming and not to mention the baby on the way soon. What do you think mother?"

"Sure I would love it" stated Mrs.Tuddley

"We will come and pick you up on Saturday.I think you have done very well ten years of service that you and the store have given to the community.

So the store was closed, and a sign in the doorway window (CLOSED!) A new year came. There sat the old building with no charm anymore it still it brought someone back.

The young lady that meet Mrs.Tuddley years back when she first opened the store and she made the purchase on the old Armoire. She came to tell Mrs.Tuddley about her story of her two children playing hide and seek in the old armoire just as Mrs Tuddley told her the same story along time ago about Trisha and Joseph. But to her surprise there was no Mrs Tuddley. So she walked over to the business next door.

"Excuse me,my name is Liza I'm looking for the owner next door"

"Her children moved her to the city to live with them." The gentleman replied.

"Liza turned to walk away.I just wanted to tell her the story of her good memories about the Armiour and my name. She looked back at him do you know what her name was?"The owner of Marie's that is Sir."

"Yes her Name was Mrs.Marie Tuddley" stated the gentleman. There is no Woman in the doorway as we had called her through the years. She is gone and the store is closed. All that is left is memories hers and ours.
