The Worker’s Vacation - poem

Updated on June 12, 2015

Narration:

This is for everyone because it is basically about how all of us need a rest, or break, at least once a year no matter what type of job we have. There are many sorts of vacations, rests, relaxations which we can take. If we have hobbies which we do routinely, or even randomly, they help. We go into all of these subjects in more detail below.

Needing Some Time Off Work:

This poem has been written for those of us who are tired and do not know it. Perhaps your writing has been getting to you and you need to take a break to avoid the problems in the present. Maybe the problems, or at least some of them, will be taken care of by the time you get back. At least you will have rested and rejuvenated and even cleared up writer’s block, if you had that. If not then there are other ways.

Suppose that they are problems from the past or future. Usually problems from the past can be cleared up on your time off. If they cannot be cleared up, there is still no use in worrying about them, they are past.

Problems of the future are not here yet. Fretting about them is a waste of time until they get here - then they are present problems.

What To Do On Vacations:

Maybe you like playing golf but you never have time between your job and your chores at home. You think to yourself, “Oh, I will have all day Saturday, and Sunday after church to relax on the course.” The weekend gets here and you find out that you have to work all weekend, or work at the office on Saturday and do chores around the house on Sunday. That weekend is shot. Take a vacation at your favorite golf club, relax and have a good time.

Perhaps you want to go to Disney. Your family may enjoy that, or if you do not have a family you might like to see Mickey Mouse yourself. They have one in Florida (Disney World) and one in California (Disneyland) – they are different names but they are both basically the same. They both have rides, food, Disney characters, etc.

You might want to stay home, that is okay too. Do you have hobbies? Such as gardening, country biking, tinkering around in the house or garage, watching the birds, etc. There is nothing wrong with just relaxing and doing your hobby. As long as you eat right and exercise correctly.

If you have writer’s block then you can scribble just about nothing – or anything – that you want.

If you are a gardener, what type are you?

The Vacation Poem:

Do you work on the docks, or

Do you work in the plant?

Do you work in the office, or

Do you work at home?

What type of career did you select?

Are you a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher or a writer?

Whatever you chose, wherever you work,

A vacation should be a time of rest.

We all need a vacation, a break from work,

Where you go, what you do, you do your best,

To become rested and relaxed,

To recharge so you can return to work.

So take a break, relax, do not worry and become refreshed.

      Kevin,

I have not been on vacation in years. I can relate to this hub. V/P/H

Now, I am on my way to help my parents.

      Have a great day.

      Blessings,

Hi Kevin, we certainly all need a break or vacation at least once a year no matter what we do for a living. I used to work in an office and library, also volunteer firefighter and fire station secretary. Now primarily a carer and writer. I still need a break now and hen to refresh and get a new perspective

and ideas. Interesting hub and poem.

Hello Kevin, I think a vacation is needed at least once a year, more often if you can. I am a retired R.N. and I vacationed in Fl. every winter for about ten years. I loved it. On Thanksgiving Day we would all set our food up outside and enjoy the day. I guess my hobby now is writing, biking, tending to my flowers and garden, and of course feeding my birds and squirrels.. Interesting hub..Tweeted..

Gee, you have had a busy life John. I like Libraries and spent a lot of time in them, I wanted to work in one but never did.

Thank you for approving the Hub and poem. The poem was 1,2,3. The rest took longer than I thought.

      Have a nice day.

Kevin, we all need a vacation or break from our routine monotonous living. Whenever I get a chance , I go to my ancestral village in the hills or other places. It rejuvenates my mind and I feel refreshed and relaxed. My main hobbies are reading and writing but I also like feeding birds and tending plants. You penned a very important hub and poem reflecting a great message. Voted up.

Hello Ruby, you are right about taking it more often if you can - just not too often. A 9-5 job only allows once a year. There are certain jobs/positions that give it every 6 months. Living in Illinois, I can see why you took a vacation in FLA in the winter. lol I like your hobbies, they sound like some of mine.

Thank you for your comment and tweet on my Hub. :-)

      Have a nice day.

Ah vacation, a time to relax and recharge. No one is above taking a vacation, it's the best thing you can do for yourself. Your poem was lovely.

Now that I am retired I would say my hobbies are writing and gardening.

      Voted up, useful, and interesting.

I love jungle plants...and uniquely...desert plants; cactuses both flowering and non-flowering. I love playing games on the internet. They help me relax, wind down. If I had the privilege to live on a farm with dogs, horses, and cows I probably wouldn't play games as much. I'm a country girl, and country at heart as well. I miss the country...now that I'm living in the city!

You sound like you worked where vacations were not allowed Mary, (there are some of those), and you were too busy to have hobbies. I like the hobbies you have now. Thank you for your vote and comment. :-)

Hey Canada girl. Hi Jo, nice to meet you. I saw cactus' when I lived in Phoenix, AZ. I played games in arcades like Pac-Man, I have chess and solitaire on my PC. Maybe you should aim to buy a farm as a goal. I want to thank you for stopping by and reading the Hub.

      Have a nice day! :-)

Oh, I have not been on a real vacation in so many years, so I am ready for one! However, when my precious grands come up every other weekend, pretty much, it is like a vacation with all of the love and joy going around : )

Hi Kevin. I enjoyed reading this because I think vacations are so important to keeping a balance in life. I enjoyed your poem and it is a good one. Even just a weekend vacation can do wonders for recharging the batteries. All work and no play makes Jack/Jill a dull boy/girl. Just getting away on the weekend to a Bed and Breakfast makes a mini-vacation that can be done on short notice and any weekend. There is not a ton of money invested in it yet it gets us away from the grind of daily life and the job. This is full of good suggestions and advice.

Good for you Frank, we all need them. Thank you for enjoying the poem and videos. That is what I call gardening, having fresh fruit on hand, I had a bird garden when I grew flowers. I tried collecting baseball cards, but was no good. It was good to see you too Frank, thank you for stopping by. :-)

Five years! Wow! I do not see you complaining about things though, you must handle stress calmly. Do you meditate? You are welcome for the reminder, at least I can tell others where you are next summer when they start a forum worrying about you being missing. lol I know about working for yourself, that is what I do.

Thank you for reading this Billy. :-)

What the heck is a vacation? Just kidding. We are starting to day day trips on a tour bus and that is getting us both out of the house and out of jobs that my husband has. It is great to get away from it all and see different things, talk to different people and recharge our batteries. My hobby is my gardening from Spring to Fall. Winter is one of those blah things and we really do not get out much because of snow or ice and bad weather.

Day trips are good too Debra, as long as you do not get bored with the tour. ha,ha Gardening used to be a favorite of mine, but not in this yard. In the winter you can do hobbies inside - take indoor gardening and other crafts. Block the weather from your mind.

Thank you for reading my Hub. :-)

Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing your poem, and the videos and thoughts on vacation. This is an important topic really. We need a time separate from our work, no matter what the work is, to regroup and rest our bodies and minds. I once hears someone say that part of what makes a vacation so special, is because you DO work so hard the rest of the time. If we didn't take a break, we would be doing ourselves a disservice I think.

One more thought on vacations that I have learned along the way, is that when on vacation, don't try to overdo it. We can try to pack in so much i the short span of time, that we feel more exhausted and certainly not rested. Its better to truly take it easy. Beach vacations that don't have a lot planned, are good for that. Thanks for sharing. I want to go to Florida now after watching that video! Its so fun to just relax in the sun a little bit, find shells, play in the water, etc. I love to take photos, myself.

Good Tuesday morning, thank you for reading this poem and I am glad that you liked it. I am happy to share it and it was a pleasure to write. I have just seen so many on here complaining and stressed about things and it hit me one day, so I wrote this.

If you do go to Florida - have fun! Write a story about it when you get back.

      Have a nice day. :)
