1978

I was born in 1978 so writing a hub exploring that year and what happened during that particular time in history is the basis for this article. I hope that you enjoy this read. I obviously do not remember 1978 because, I was a newborn but, as a 5 or 6 year old playing the Simon says toy and the Atari were a top priority and they were also my sister's entertainment in 1978 on Christmas. She also got the Atari and in 1979 for her birthday, she got the Simon says.

Top Toys and Games in 1978

Obviously, More than five toys were for sale in 1978 but the ones on this list were the best sellers that year based on quantity sold.

1. Simon: Simon is a battery operated toy that blinks different colors and expects you to touch them in the correct order. This game only had one drawback. The batteries always ran out too soon.

2. Connect Four: Connect Four has been a favorite for over 30 years and counting. Two players can play for hours. And the best part is whether your young or old it remains an entertaining game.

3. Kids Drum-set: A mini drum set had children playing the band but parents regretted the purchase because of the noise. (Lol) It was the first of its kind as far as a toy version drum set goes.

4. Bikes with Rear Training Wheels: This was the first year that bicycles had training wheels put on the back tires. It was a great added safety feature for first time riders.

5. Scooters: Scooters began to get popular in 1978 and girls and boys started asking their mom and dads for one.

I hate to nitpick but "Jaws: The Revenge" was not released in 1978. "Jaws 2" was. "Revenge" was released in 1987.

I don't know where anybody found gas for 63 cents a gallon in 1978. I was paying $1.29 a gallon for it and driving about 70 miles round trip to work. My salary was $800 a month (fantastic for a mere woman then) and I was lucky enough to find a house for $175 mo. in an older but nice neighborhood. Those were not the good old days because inflation was rampant leading up to the recession in the 80s.

Lol. It really was that price in Bama for gas then. Has didn't hit 1.29 gallon here until the late 1990's.

Really enjoyed this hub as my daughter was in school and most things are very memorable. She loved watching Good Times and still enjoys it today on ME tv. Thanks for the reminder of all the good old days.
