The Yearly Backslide

Updated on December 5, 2010

Next year I will be better, purer...

give more, be more, weigh less...

tomorrow and tomorrow a day brighter then today...

I will shed a tear for my past...

turn a new leaf as I am drunk...

waiting for the clock to strike twelve...

nostalgia and hope are new in my brew...

grabbing the one I am with in a kiss...

surely there is nothing wrong in a wish.

I must concur...

adding something more all the same...

as if you expected anything different...

how many years have you promised...

how many of those wishes survived the morning light?

If you are not perfect it is your own fault...

you have had enough years to turn everything about....

one year, another...

what does it matter the count...

don't you regret the progress not made?

Sure you do...

that is the rub...

the cause for mocking the pure...

who seek purity in all, all the same...

you tell them its impossible...

they aught to turn back...

remember you could do the same but refused the track...

So as the clock strikes twelve this year...

put away the things that inhibit thought...

consider your life...

if its complete or not...

then take you a step into eternity...

a stride toward a nobler way.

Doug, Micky, Dave I am glad you three stopped by and enjoyed.

Dough, you were right in that I think New Years Resolution suck but I think they can be useful all the same if kept.

Micky, I think I will. I wish you luck in doing the same.

Dave, He already has, without equivocation I hope you find the same steadiness of course.

Permit God to show you how to live each and every second of every day to its fullest, leaving all of the worrying to Him.

      Brother Dave.

You misunderstand, to heaven with New Year's Resolutions, to hell with those that break their word under any guise.
