The essence of Life - A poem by Richard Mawby

Updated on March 1, 2020

The essence of life; it is a mysterious, intangible field of intrigue that has captured the imagination and the hearts of many.

What is life? How can you describe the magic that surrounds us daily?

The very essence of life fuels the heart of the world and without it our reality would exist no more. Yet every day, humanity seeks to destroy nature and all its beauty little by little, thus impacting upon the heart of this earth; resulting in the decline of the very essence of which our souls were born.

I believe that life itself falls hand in hand with nature and through this relationship one can connect with the magic and realise what they have been missing. Below is a poem of pure inspiration; enjoy and cherish these words as much as I.

The essence of Life

How can one describe this presence?

Its humble hold and magical essence

Invisible, unscented, none can see

As it envelopes both you and me

And flows upon the gentle breeze

As well as through the veins of these

Of trees and creatures great and small

All vessels abiding by life’s long call

While there are humans who ignore

How can we dismiss and find it a bore?

The beauty once thrived of nature and bliss

Why did we destroy our paradise’s kiss?

Though there are few of us who know

Leaders who can find and show

What we have been missing centuries long

But come has the age of awakening’s song

Look towards our distant pasts

To acknowledge our wisdom through ages it lasts

Carried by souls of infinite time

Emerging each lifetime through vessels like mine

And thus the age shall one day arise

All is not lost as you gaze at the skies

Close your eyes and open your senses

Feast upon life through intangible lenses

We are all one united through essence

The roots of nature, they bind us together

A consciousness beyond all that you know

Where the essence of life, forever it shall flow;

      What is life ?

Have you bothered to know ?

      Why we came here ?

      And where we go ?

Ask a teenager, and he will say,

      Life isbeautiful,life is gay,

A place to enjoy and leave away,

Sorrow and regrets on its way,

Ask a toddler and he will say,

I like to play , life is play.

Ask a butterfly and she will reply,

Life is to fly in the beautiful sky ,

Ask any grown up and he will say

Life is not a child's play

Ask any athlete and he will say,

Life is just living all the way .

Ask a priest and he will tell ,

Life is a place where we dwell .

      Amidst heaven amidst hell .

Only to prepare for another journey

With our maker through destiny .

A pessimist will sigh in distress ,

A life is a big desert of pain,

Where you search for happiness ,

      But all goes in vain

      A mathematician will calculate ,

      Sorrows subtracted , blessings added

Friends multiplied , enemies divided ,

Will make you live till you are 108 .

It is really a great confusion

What should be the ultimate conclusion ?

Life is a gift , life is divine

Life is only for those who care ,

      For those who share ,

      So never complain never compare

Life is only for those who dare

      So,dare to live,dare to fight

      All the obstacles with delight

Life is only for those who smile

Through their sorrows , through their strife .

So , forget all trails and smile all the while ,

This is only the essence of LIFE .

Very lovely poem and images that fit it well. I feel the message here is to get back to simplicity, enjoy your surroundings, and more importantly, take in every bit of the world's beauty and know it is here for all of us. We are all a part of this intriguing earth. Don't close your eyes! Great poem!

Thank you Mary, glad you like it. That verse is indeed special as it should encourage one to do just that and experience the world through the third eye.
