In the heart of alone .............Verse

Updated on September 13, 2015

A blue whale this last of his breed flows in liquid
solitude towards the very ends of extinction

The blond grizzly moves lofted in the high
peaks of the rockies in the last eternal distinction

The grey wolf slinks in the shadows of mankind
unseen but for memories of a man

The Mongolian horse wander and feed on
the remnants of a time laid waste again

The pine marten in the forest
primeval have you seen him today

Or the last of the great white bears seeking
the ice fields melting slowly away

The last man alive may wander an barren earth wondering just where all the others have gone and yet was it not you that pushed to the edges all the others before you towards the doors of extinction , was it not you who slaughtered the dreams of your very own outdoors world , was it not you who burned and battered , who tore the earth and blazed the trails and highways of pavement and cement ? No ? And still you deny that it was you , even as you sit crying in the solitude that surrounds you ? Shame on you.

Gypsy ,there are times that the stupidity of man is so obvious , we aren't happy until we tear apart something that been in its natural state forever ! I often see that state when I see a new foundation for a home or a roadway . When is enough enough ?......:-]

Well said Nellieanna! I feel all the progression we have made why are people still so stupid? and getting even more stupid with every new generation.

Much wisdom herein. This line encompasses so much:". . . peaks of the rockies in the last eternal distinction. . . . " wow.

As I was dozing off last night, I was thinking (in my usual general prayer mode) about all my grandkids and great-grands, and some step-grands & greats, as well, about their lives and what they are facing and will be facing - and I had to admit that the troubles I'd love for them to be spared are either being self-created or will be self-created, as in all our individual cases. I had to recall some of my worst troubles and remembered the parts I had in setting them off or accepting the conditions that would surely, inevitably lead toward them.

We just kid ourselves if we think that bad things just befall us out of the blue or that our destiny is to be in harm's way. We not only move into harm's way, but virtually invite and dare it at times.

Animals are already becoming extinct and their habitats are constantly being bulldozed to clear way for 'civilization'. We have concrete jungles where there used to be vast plush forests, grasslands, and jungles full of thriving animals which keep all our ecologies in harmony. Why? one wonders. Oh - right - greed and acquisitiveness. If it exists, people want to have and/or to control it, no matter what is sacrificed in the process.

a very sad truth that is happening more and more every day. and only mankind is to blame for destroying the lands in name of progression and technology. In wasting our natural resources and butchering and poaching the rare animal breeds and even the not so rare making them rare too. i would not want to be around when humans are all thats left...

When will we put the earth before greed?

Loved your poetry but oh, so sad to think of animals becoming extinct and their natural habitats destroyed.
